SISTER LOVIE BELL CURTIS HEAD

Whereas, it hath pleased our Heavenly Father in His infinite wisdom and power on Sept. 17, 2002, to call our beloved sister in Christ, Sister Lovie Bell Curtis Head home to His eternal presence, let us bow to His Holy Will. Although realizing it was a blessing, we were saddened by her death. She had been ill for a number of years, and was in a nursing home in Texas near her daughter.

Sister Lovie was a faithful member of Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church of Oklahoma City, having joined by relation in May 1967. We thank God for the privilege of knowing and sharing the life of this dear sister. She was deeply loved and has been greatly missed for some time. However, we submit that our loss is her gain, since she is now free from her health problems and in the presence of her Lord. We extend ou sincere sympathy to her loving family.

Sister Lovie was blessed to be loved dearly by two husbands, who both preceded her in death, Charles A. Head, and her first husband and father of her children, Miley B. Curtis. Her parents, Josiah R. and Maggie Morgan, and three sisters, also preceded her in death. She is survived by her loving family, daughter, Joy and husband, Jimmy Pruett; son, Duane Curtis and wife Darlene; daughter, Linda and her husband Ken Erkman; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. BROTHER JOHN W. JONES

John W. Jones, beloved member, deacon and treasurer of the Corpus Christi, TX Primitive Baptist Church, was called from this home on earth to join his Lord in His mansion on May 24, 2002.

Brother John was born to Walter Lee and Callie Berry Jones May 12, 1916. He married Linnie Cole in 1939. They made their home in the Corpus Christi area where they raised one daughter, Brenda, and five sons: Kenneth, Sammy, Billy, Ray and Jimmy in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

Brother John joined the Corpus Christi church in 1952, became its' deacon in 1966 and began his 35 years as church treasurer in 1967. He and his two sons put in many hours, after working all day and on weekends, helping to build the current church building.

The church seems a little emptier since Brother John's passing. We miss his presence, his smile, his kind, loving and encouraging words and teasing.

Brother John was a wonderful example for any young man. He was a loving father wanting only the best for his family, a devoted husband, wonderful friend, and teacher and guide. He served the church through good times and bad, often taking extra from his own pocket to help support the church expenses that were not met through donations.

Brother John helped to nurture several young ministers in his years at Corpus. Elder Mike Montgomery says, "Brother John was a great example of what it meant to be a husband, father, brother, and friend. I never knew a man so loved by his family. He taught me many things, but chiefest of all is how he taught me to work hard, do a good job and give your best, no matter what. As a young, first-time pastor, Brother John provided the wisdom and guidance that I needed. He was so kind and patient in dealing with my many youthful faults and failures as a preacher and pastor. He was always there for me to lean on."

Elder Chris Blevins shares, "Brother John was one of the influential forces in my still-young ministry. I found that John was a source of strength and comfort. He would pull me off to the side to discuss his thoughts on how the church was faring and it always struck me how much he cared for the welfare of the church body. His admonitions were full of love and his encouragements the wisdom that one

possesses by having already been down that particular stretch of road. His active testimony and dedication and service, in spite of his problems, has more than once reminded me to press on."

With his passing, we at the Corpus Christi Primitive Baptist Church have lost the fellowship of a friend and brother, and of his family, their father an faithful companion.

We are reminded however, that our loss is truly his gain. We are thankful that he no longer suffers under the afflictions of his later years and now rests in the fullness of God's grace in the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Respectfully submitted,

Corpus Christi Primitive Baptist Church

Elder Chris Blevins, Pastor

Sister Lynette Gerdes, Clerk

Elder Kenneth B Martin

God has called home, one of his faithful servants. On the evening of October 7, 2002, around 5 o’clock in the evening, Elder Kenneth B Martin passed from this life at the age of 87 years, 6 months, and 5 days. Brother Kenneth had been in failing health for some time and was a resident of the Muleshoe Nursing Home.

As was evident by the large attendance of his funeral services, he was loved and well respected by those who knew him. Elder Martin was ordained to the ministry in 1946. He traveled many miles to preach the unsearchable riches of God’s grace and power. His church membership was with the Muleshoe Primitive Baptist Church.

Kenneth Martin was Justice of the Peace in Bailey County from 1975-1976. He also was a salesman in various areas of retail sales.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sister Lorene on August 2, 1992, and by a son, three year old William David in 1940.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Elder Don Martin and sister Sandra of Perryton Texas, and a daughter and son-in-law, Sister Ann and brother Marshall Williams of Muleshoe Texas. Also surviving are five grandchildren; Kim and husband Keith Smith of Spicewood Texas, Marsha and husband, Donnie Davis of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Terrie and husband, Randy Smith of Lazbuddie, Suzanne and husband, Ken Wilhelm of Plainview Texas, and Charles Martin of Perryton Texas. Three great-grandchildren also survive, they are Rochelle Smith, Riley Smith, and Garrett Davis.

The funeral services were held in the Muleshoe Primitive Baptist Church on October 10th at 11 a.m. Casket bearers were the grandsons and great grandsons, Randy Smith, Donnie Davis, Ken Wilhelm, Charles Martin, Riley Smith, and Garret Davis. The sixteen ministers in attendance were honorary casket bearers. Elder Cleveland Bass and Elder Bernard Gowens so ably preached the services and the singing was congregational, led by brother Elton Bass. As in brother Martin’s life, God was praised in his death also.

Brother Martin’s body was laid beside his companion’s body, in Muleshoe Memorial Park, to await the resurrection morning, when all the saints shall ascend on high and forever be with the Lord. I have heard brother Kenneth speak at many funerals and he always referred to the resurrection morning as "the morning for which all mornings were designed". He believed that and he preached it.

In Humble Submission from the Muleshoe Primitive Baptist Church.

Elder Cleveland Bass, Moderator

Jim Collins, Church Clerk
