Eulogy for Nola Lindsey
Everybody here knew Nola and most of us have our favorite stories about her marvelous life. She did lead a marvelous life, and I use that word because I’ve seen the looks of wonder and marvel on all of our faces at the stories both experienced and told by and about our beloved Nola
Nola came from Texas, lived briefly in Arizona, and eventually landed in Southern California in 1942 with only $10 in gas stamps and a few dollars to get by on for a short time. She landed a job the very next day at Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach where she worked as a “Rosie the Riveter” on the aircraft production line. Her steady employment was just that - for 27 years she always clocked in on time and never called in sick!
She always lived by the biblical verse, “I can do all things in Christ which strengthens me.” This verse came to mind for her over and over during her trials and tribulations - such as the time in April of 1993, when she fell in her garage and had to help herself get to the phone...
She knew her leg was broken and yet nobody was around to help. Instead of panicking or giving in to shock, she worked a piece of plastic under her shoulders and back and found a broom handle to use as a push device and pushed her way from the garage to the house. She struggled up the steps, through the kitchen and to the phone.
Using the broom handle, she knocked the phone down within her reach, and called 911 for help.
She always did what she could to avoid depending on others. One day, I think sometime in the late 1980’s, some church members came by the house to visit. Upon arriving they noticed her car Out front and jacked up as if to change the tire. The church friends looked all about the house and yard for Nola but she was no where to be seen... Finally, they gathered together out in front again, and much to their amazement Nola came rolling out from under her vehicle on a mechanic’s dolly, tools in hand, ‘Why sister Lindsay... “one of them exclaimed, “what are you doing under there?”
“Well” Nola replied, very matter-of-factly, “I was putting in a new starter!” These are only a few of Nola’s stories and many of you know and hopefully will share other anecdotes and sentimentalities during the reception as, we celebrate and honor the full life of our precious Sister Lindsey, the matriarch of her family.
But lest we misplace things in our hearts and in our minds, let us reflect on HIM who stood beside her every day of her life. How thankful are we all who loved her, that Jesus loved her always and shed His grace on her all the days of her life.
Through the loving support of the members of this church and close family friends, Nola’s family, my family, has been blessed and led through the rough spots that usually plague family members in a time of sorrow.
This experience has given me a sense of joy and. relief in the knowledge that our dear one has been called home to be in the loving arms of our precious Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Born in Lakewood, California, he was the middle son of three sons. Had his fortieth birthday, January 27, 2002. He was well thought of and had a good sense of humor. He had struggled through severe illness, and lost his colon, but trusted the Lord.
He joined the Primitive Baptist Church, at a special meeting at Tucson, Arizona, April 27, 2001, and from that time on rejoiced greatly in the Lord.
He loved to write poems, and wrote several beautiful poems, and especially loved to sing praises to the Lord, and discuss scriptures.
With the Lord's help, he made up his mind to quit smoking and drinking and won over it in a few short weeks, and never touched it again. He finished high school with flying colors, always got good grades.
He leaves to mourn him, his grandmother, Lois Mullins, his father, Clifton Wayne Poss, Sr., anmd his mother, Effie Lou Poss, and his two brothers, Clifton Wayne Poss, Jr., and John Jefferson Poss, and a host of friends.
We shall all miss him so much.
Sent in by the Primitive Baptist Church of San Jacinto, CA. We feel such a great loss!
