Sweet memories and sadness linger as we, the Beulah Primitive Baptist Church submit this resolution of respect for our dear sister, Nelle Drummond.
Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints, Psalms 16, Verse 5. On April 1, 2000, our beloved sister, Nelle Drummond passed this life late in the evening as the sun was setting with its golden rays of beauty, to be with her Lord.
She was born on November 6, 1926, to Burt and Fay Shattuck in Cisco, Texas. Nelle married Robert [Bob] Drummond on May 12, 1945. To this union was born three children: Robert Paul of Booneville, MO, William [Bill] Frank of Durham, North Carolina and Meredeth Drummond of Weatherford, TX.
Nelle was a long-time member of the Beulah Church, having been baptized by Elder B.R. Howze in September of 1946. From that time forward, Sister Nelle was a tireless worker in the Church, always involved in helping others.
Sister Nelle started the "news" letter from home in 1960, especially for the brothers and sisters who were in nursing homes or those who had moved far away from their church home. She sent the letter to our servicemen overseas to let them know about their little church, and to 13 more states in the Union for nearly 40 years. It was a labor of love for her. This little "letter" could well serve as a good record for our church. All of us will miss her sweet correspondence.
Sister Nelle was a true friend to all of us. She was a very spiritual lady and inspired many to walk closer to their Lord. She was a mother and a godly example of motherhood to all who knew her. She was a good example of "the godly woman" mentioned in Titus 2:3-4.
Funeral services were held on October 4, 2000, at the Beulah Primitive Baptist Church. Elder Troy Barrington conducted the services, with Elder Raymond Kirkpatrick reading the obituary. Interment followed at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland. Pallbearers were: Michael Drummond, Jason Everhart, Doug Daniels, Jay May, Andy May and Dennis Walker.
Sister Nelle is survived by her husband of 55 years, Robert T. Drummond and by her three children: Robert Paul Drummond and wife, Suzanne, Meredeth Drummond, and Bill Drummond, and wife, Lisa. She also leaves behind one sister, Stella [Shattuck] May and husband, J. D., seven grandchildren and five great-grand-children and nieces and nephews.
Although, we will always miss our Sister Nelle, we at the Beulah Church bow in submission to the will of our Heavenly Father.
This resolution is written at the request of the Beulah Primitive Baptist Church while in conference on April 9, 2000 by three who loved her dearly.

He always displayed a great love for his God and church. While Brother Charlie will be missed, we are comforted in knowing the frailties of age are no longer bearing down on him and he is resting in the love and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the family.

Everyone who knew Sister Katie Morris experienced her warmth and loving kindness. We at Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church at Purcell mourn the loss of such a dear Mother in Israel. A member for 79 years, Sister Katie's influence spanned many generations of Primitive Baptists all over the country.
She was born November 17, 1909 in Coleman County, Texas to David and Frankie Elam. She married Albert a. Morris in 1927. Albert and Katie farmed in Grady County, OK until 1948 when they moved to California. After retiring from the Fresno, CA school system in 1970, they traveled extensively over much of the United States. She died on Friday, April 21, 2000, at the age of 90.
Most recently, Sister Katie was a member of our church at Purcell, and for many years previously, the Duncan Church. Preceding her in death was her late husband, Brother Albert, two brothers, George and Carl Elam, and a granddaughter, Susan Traver.
Survivors include her three sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas, a deacon of our church and Clariece Morris of Ardmore, Robert and Charlene Morris of Hamilton, TX, and Herbert and Vanda Morris of Salem, Oregon; four sisters, Essie Williams, Edna King Jewell Bennett, and Lucille Holley; two brothers; Arthur and Leonard Elam, nine grandchildren, 7 great-grand-children; one great-great-grand-child; and many loving family members and friends.
We remember Sister Katie best for her gently nature and love of the Lord's people. While she loved gardening and sewing and cooking, her strongest love was for the Lord and His church. One of our young members commented on hearing of her passing, "Sister Katie was always so sweet and loving to me." not just to the young, she was the same with all of God's people.
Sister Katie had a "praying heart." It was disheartening to her when she could not be in the service of the Lord. When urged to tell the secrets of her longevity on earth, her repeated response was, "the Lord has been so good to me."
And, the Lord was good to us to give us Sister Katie, if only for a short while. Many of us knew her for much of our lives and were blessed when she and Brother Albert would come to our summer meetings. We looked forward to them coming again when they would lift our spirits and encourage us in the work of the Lord.
Our little church at Purcell will miss her loving nature, her encouragement, and her gentle spirit. May the God of all grace and comfort grant comfort to her family and us and give to each of us reconciling grace to say," thy will be done."

The Philadelphia Primitive Baptist Church is saddened by the loss of long tine member and friend, Brother Leo J. Parker, but are rejoicing that he is in the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Brother Leo was a member of the Philadelphia Primitive Baptist Church in Big Spring, TX for 42 years. He and his two daughters joined the Primitive Baptist faith on August 13, 1958. He was a man small in size, but big in faith. He was never ordained as a deacon, but stood in this position as well as any man ever could. Brother Leo was a very dedicated and faithful follower of the Lord. He loved the Lord, his family and the church with all his heart and lived his life in a way that everyone looked up to.
He was born on July 11, 1921 in Nueces County and moved to Big Spring in 1962. He married Nell Grace Hart on December 28, 1942. He was blessed to live and serve the Lord for 79 years and passed peacefully away on September 19, 2000. He leaves behind his loving wife, Sister Nell Parker of 57 years.
Brother Leo and Sister Nell were indeed joined as one and set the example that a marriage truly is made in heaven. There is a definite void now left in her life as well as in the church. Officiating at the services of Brother Leo were Elder L. Jeff Harris of Tifton, GA, former pastor of the Big Spring Philadelphia Primitive Baptist Church and Elder Troy Barrington, pastor of the Primitive Baptist church of Midland, Texas.
He is also survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Sister Dena Rae Howard of Big Spring, TX and Dolores Ann and Marco Westmoreland of Leroy, TX; one brother, Peter H. Parker of Luling, TX; one sister, Tuleta Forester of Luling, TX; four grandchildren; Capt. Jack Shay Howard of Fort Bragg, NC, Mark Wayne Westmoreland of Hillsboro, TX, Leigh Ann Ussery and her husband David of Liberty Hill, TX, and Patty Rae Anderson and her husband Robert of Abilene, TX; three great-grandchildren, Nicholas Peter Acquaro and Justin and Adrian Grace Ussery, all of Liberty Hill, TX
Brother Leo was a very sweet, kind and giving man and will be missed by all who knew him.
Therefore, be it resolved, that a copy of this resolution be placed on our church records, a copy sent to the family, and a copy sent to the Banner of Love for publication.

Our sister in Christ, Venus L. Walker, at age 79, was called quickly out of this world near mid-day, Tuesday, April 18, 2000. Her God-given spirit went immediately to Heaven to join the heavenly host while her body awaits the resurrection morning.
Venus [Neugebauer] Walker was born January 29, 1921 in Enid, OK. Her father was a Russian immigrant. An accomplished musician and teacher, she played the violin, viola, cello, accordion, and balalaika, a Russian lute. A devoted wife and mother, Sister Venus gave up the offered position of concertmaster with the Dallas Philharmonic Orchestra when she learned she was expecting her first daughter, Sylven. She was a life member of the Dallas Musicians Union.
Sister Walker resided with her husband, Vanus Walker, in Grand Prairie, Texas. She was a member of Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church of Purcell, OK, and a former member of the Arlington, TX Church. Both were baptized September 4, 1983, and have regularly attended services ever since.
She is survived by her husband, Brother Sylvanus Walker; two daughters, Sylven Steeples and husband, Edi of Olivia, TX; and Vanna Brackney and husband, Kevin of Grand Prairie, TX; one foster daughter, Karen Crow and husband, Keith of New Jersey; one sister, Allyra Jameson, and a host of friends and loving members of the Primitive Baptist Church.
Brother Vanus and Sister Venus met at Oklahoma State University. Friends of both were anxious to introduce them because of the similarity of their names. And, so began a marriage of 57 years. She will always be known for her grace and beauty and very unique style.
Sister Marilyn Hughes, as a child, remembers being fascinated with Sister Venus. She was always anxious to talk with young people, share her love of musical instruments, and teach them as much as possible in whatever time was available.
Sister Neycia Boen, member of the Arlington Church, remembers when Venus and Vanus began attending at Arlington in the late 1960's. Hearing the unaccompanied, congregational singing, which was sometimes discordant, was difficult for her. Soon though, under the influence of the Holy Spirit, she thought it sounded "a little more like the angels singing" She became a regular attendee of the Harmony Plains Singing School, encouraging our young people in their efforts to sing sweeter praises to our God.
Our little church at Purcell will miss her gracious presence. May the God of all grace and comfort grant comfort to her family and us and give to each of us reconciling grace to say, "Thy will be done."
