BROTHER JAMES KUYKENDALL

The Valley Spring Primitive Baptist Church is saddened by the passing of our dear Brother in Christ, James Kuykendall, on July 7, 2000. However, we bow in humble submission to the will of our Heavenly Father and rejoice in the knowledge that Brother James has completed his life journey and is at peace in his heavenly home.

Funeral services were held July 10, 2000 at the Howell-Doran Funeral Home in San Saba, Texas with Don Henderson and Forrest McGregor conducting services. A personal tribute to Brother James by two of his grandchildren, Jeff Kuykendall and Lisa Whittlesey, was a beautiful and moving addition to the services.

Interment was at the Kuykendall Cemetery near Cherokee, Texas, with his pastor, Elder Larry Hausenfluke, reading from Isaiah, as Christ is likened to a nail to his family holding them together with His strength. The strength he had because of the faith he had in keeping Christ as a nail in a sure place in his life. Brother James was one whose faith showed through in his daily walk on this earth.

Brother James Kuykendall was born October 21, 1915, in San Saba County to Lovell and Lura May Taylor Kuykendall. On Oct. 21, 1936 he married Zudora Whitt and they resided in Cherokee, TX. His wife preceded him in death on Sept. 4, 1981.

On Nov. 7, 1982, Brother James presented himself for membership to the Valley Spring Church and was gladly received by the congregation. He came by experience of faith and was baptized on Nov. 21 at the church. He was a faithful member until his health prevented him from attending services.

Brother James was a quiet, thoughtful and humble man. He never wavered from his duties as a good church member and offered many humble prayers on a bended knee that sometimes seemed too weak to hold him. The Lord sustained him in the difficulties of life and made him a man his family and friends knew on whom they could depend.

Survivors include two sons, John L. Kuykendall and wife, Patty of Llano, and Lovell W. Kuykendall and wife, Sandra of Olathe, KS; grandchildren, Jeff Kuykendall of Llano, Lisa Whittlesey and husband, Randall of College Station, Jim Kuykendall, Donna Stewart and husband, Darin, all of Olathe, KS; Karen Blanco and husband, Luis of Austin; four great-grandchildren; Taylor and Cole Whittlesey, and Clay and Alyson Stewart, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three brothers, Johnson, Bill and Joe Kuykendall and one sister, Elizabeth Kuykendall.

Brother James will be greatly missed by the Valley Spring Primitive Baptist Church. His passing ends a line of the Kuykendall family which spans decades of involvement in our faith. His ancestors were charter members in the Cherokee Primitive Baptist Church established in 1887. His mother and brother, Johnson were also members at Valley Spring.

Therefore, we the members of the Valley Spring Primitive Baptist Church resolve to honor the memory of Brother James Kuykendall with this Resolution of Respect and will place one copy in the church records, with copies to the family and a copy to The Banner of Love for publication.

Written at the request of the church by Brother Jimmy Shook and Sister Nancy Shook.
