"Here they bloom but for a season. Soon their beauty is decayed. I am going to a city where the roses never fade."
Indian Oaks Primitive Baptist Church, Fort Worth, Texas is saddened by the death of our dear brother in Christ, Don Owens, who passed away on October 25, 1999. After a year long illness with cancer, God in His infinite wisdom and tender mercy, saw fit to relieve Brother Don of his suffering and take him home where sorrow and pain are no more.
Brother Don's love for the Lord shone brightly in his daily walk. His faith was made manifest at the time he was diagnosed with a terminal disease. Those standing at his bedside were comforted by Brother Don's acknowledgement that "the Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want." We were blessed to have known him at church, where he was such a big part of the song service, often leading, and always enjoying just being here.
Olan Don Owens was born in Lamkin, TX January 23, 1929. He joined the Primitive Baptist Church July 12, 1959 at Old Harmony Association in Stephenville, TX and was baptized by Elder Raymond Bunch, and served faithfully as a deacon at Indian Oaks over 20 years. He served in the Air Force and Reserves for 30 years and had a distinguished career as Master Sergeant. When retiring from the Air Force he was a computer system analyst for NCR until retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy of Roanoke, TX, nine children, 13 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; four brothers and two sisters. Funeral services were held at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home in Colleyville, TX, with Elder Larry Webb officiating.
The church membership loved Brother Don and feels a loss every time we come together, but we rest in the thought that he is at home with our dear Lord and Savior.
Indian Oaks Primitive Baptist Church wishes to send our sincere and heartfelt sympathy to the family of Brother Don. We wish that a copy of this be recorded in our church records, a copy sent to the family and to the Banner of Love.
Respectfully submitted by Sister Carol Webb and Brother Jim Owens

Sister Lee always rejoiced in hearing the preaching of God's Word. She enjoyed talking about the scriptures and loved good singing. One of her favorite songs was "A Wonderful Savior is Jesus my Lord; another was "Who Flung the Stars?" She knew her Creator and set a good example of following Him.
She was born May 22, 1910 in Temple, TX to Albertus and Ivy [Granny] Brown. She married Roy Lee on March 20, 1927. They had three children; Alberta Snyder, Neva Jo Brown, and Donald D. Lee. Sister Gertrude was a devoted wife and mother. She also was involved in the home Demonstration Club.
Her children, her sister Wanda Merriman, nine grandchildren, 17 great-grand-children, six great-great-grand-children, three nieces and four nephews survive Sister Gertrude. Her husband, Roy, preceded her in death on January 24, 1995, Her health had failed in later years and she was anxious to go to meet her Savior and is now with "her Roy." Sister Lee lived 89 and one-half years on this earth.
Though saddened by her departure, we realize that Sister Lee has taken her heavenly flight and we will all "Meet Her in the Morning."
May the Lord bless each of us to follow her example of love of our Savior.
