In the 10th chapter of Acts we will find the duty of the minister spelled out. "He (the minister) shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do." A question who was he to teach in this? Was it an unsaved man void of eternal life or was he a child of God? Notice briefly the history of the man under consideration, a devout man, feared God and gave much alms to the people. The angel of God appeared unto him. Cornelius said, "What is it~ lord?" The answer came, "Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God". This certainly establishes the fact that inasmuch as he was a devout man, and prayed unto God, that he was a saved man. Paul says, "For through Him we both have access by one spirit unto the father." Eph. 2:18. As those that worship God must do so in the spirit and the truth, so here was a man who have access unto the Father. No doubt but that he was a son of God, born from above. He shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do as a son of God, and not how to be born again. "What God hath cleansed, that call thou not common". It seems the first lesson Peter taught Cornelius was that man is not to be worshipped. Peter says to him, "Stand up; I myself also am a man." Let us notice some of the things that was said. "But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteous ness, is accepted with Him." Cornelius certainly fits into this example given, he had worked righteousness prayed, devout. David declared that those who fear God are a blessed people, also Malachi says they shall be mine when I come to make up my jewels. The gifts of the Holy Ghost was poured out on the Gentiles, and they magnified God. Seeing this to be true, "Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we." So they were commanded to be baptized. Who was commanded to be baptized on this occasion? The answer is clear, a devout man, prayed to God always, one whom God had heard his prayers. This leads to the thought taught by Christ, deny thyself take up thy cross and follow me.
Christ set the example in baptism that we should follow Him. Christ had no sins to wash away in baptism as some claim that Baptist in water is in order for the remission of sins. Christ shed His blood for the remission of sins, that was His mission here in the world, to put away sin by this sacrifice. Now did he accomplish what He came to do? He certainly did or else He made failure. The Bible declares that He shall not fail or be discouraged.

My sister, Ruth Hopson and I treated ourselves to a visit with two of our neighboring churches during their August 5th Sunday meeting.-We were received warmly at each place, and were glad we went.
At Lampasas we enjoyed hearing both Brother Watson, their pastor, and Brother A.R. Yarbrough of Andrews, the latter we had never met before. We were pleased also to meet his wife. We appreciated the brief remarks of young brother Gene Brown, who is just beginning to speak publicly.
Then on Sunday we went to Burner to meet with the brethren and sisters and to hear Elder Larry Hausenfiuke preach.
We were happily surprised to have Brother Tom Short drop in and take part in the service. He, his wife Madeline, and son Theron were on their way from Phoenix, Ariz., to Victoria, and Burnet was on their route.
Another nice surprise was meeting Sister Katie (Elam) Morris, formerly of Grants Pass, Ore. and now of Lyford, Texas. We had not seen each other since 1928 when we were teenage members of the newly constituted Sardis Church at Combes, Texas in the lower Rio Grande Valley. Our time for visiting passed all too quickly.
It is gratifying to me that my book "As a Man thinketh, the Writings of Elder S.N. Redford ", is being so well received. Of the orders which have come from many points in the nation, a large percent have been from ministers.
At present I am working on the story of Valley Spring Church, Llano County, Texas, which will observe its 100th anniversary next August 1982.

The words, How Great Thou Art," should never be lightly emphasized when we speak of the true and living God. God, our Father, is always near us in times of crisis and in times of pleasure. Even when great numbers of His children are overtaken by the perils of this world, God is able to support each and every one. God is never late in His actions. He is never late for the tragedies that happen on the highways. He sits, in spirit, on the stretchers that are carried by the ambulances as their sirens scream toward the hospitals.
Many times in our haste when perils befall us, there is much that we forget to take with us, but there is one thing that is always there when we need it, and is always with God's children, and that is the armor of the Twenty-third Psalm. And if we are treading the valley of the shadow of death, God is there, and we are encouched in the potent promise of this lovely Psalm. We think many times of the great parable that we read of in the holy scriptures. The voice of our Saviour in a quiet way still speaks to us and teaches us as it did long ago.
I have thought many times of the historical record of the eagle who trains her young to fly. It is said that when the young eaglet can't support himself and starts to fall, its mother swoops beneath him and catches him on her back.
Our precious Saviour is ever mindful when His children start to fall and will catch them with his nail-scarred hands to give them support.
It is such a good feeling when you have been in the shadows of the great valley of death to feel the breath of God blowing on your forehead!
The third Sunday weekend in July my wife and I went down to Doss to attend the camp meeting. We certainly enjoyed our visit there.
These are fine people, and they not only know how to worship the Lord, but how to put out the hospitality mat, and how to treat visitors.
We enjoyed meeting people from other areas of the country in the service there, and enjoyed the good preaching.
The second Sunday in June Elder Jas. E. (Archie) Robertson and I exchanged appointments, he coming to Lubbock, and I visited the church at Cisco.
This was my first visit to Cisco since I quit going down there three or four years ago. They are small in number, but you won't find any better people. I greatly enjoyed the 12 or 13 years I tried to serve them as pastor: They always acted like they loved me,
The fourth Sunday in August, beginning Thursday was the time of the West Texas Association. As usual there was a large crowd.
Many people accept this time as sort of a homecoming, with people who once lived in this area coming back for a period of fellowship.
We always have more visiting preachers than there is time for them to preach, and all the home preachers get caught up on their listening during this time.
One of the visitors to the association for the first time was Elder W. V. Stanaland of Nacogdoches in the piney woods of East Texas. He seemed to enjoy his visit and of course we enjoyed having him, and other members of his family.
We are going to have to get him to come back and visit our churches when he can.
Two other visitors were Elder Paul Jones and Elder Danny Parker from the Nashville, Tenn. area. They preached together Friday night, and I thought this was the highlight of the meeting.
The other visiting ministers were men from Texas and Oklahoma, who come from time to time. We enjoyed having the.
Elder Homer Shamblin from California started early, but his wife got sick, and he only arrived Sunday morning. The committee made room for him Sunday morning, but he only took a few minutes, and he was followed by Elder Marvin Smith of Eastern Oklahoma. He was really fired up with the Spirit and preached an able sermon on principles of the doctrine.
Two of our small churches joined together to host the association, Crosbyton and Tulia. They have young men for pastors, Elder George Johnson and Elder Don Martin. They alternated in the work of the moderator of the meeting, and they worked like veterans, keeping the meeting moving on schedule, and having the ability to say just the right thing at the right time. We are indeed happy to have these two young ministers coming up and taking their places in the church.
Floydada will host the association next year. -- Editor.
I am sending my subscription, and a little extra. I know it costs more to print the paper. We look forward to getting it every month. I enjoy it. It has been my paper for years.
I saw in the June paper where a little boy asked you to preach on John 13. I am asking you to write about the way women are dressing today, and the way the men are wearing long hair. You can visit your friends today, and the women will have pants and slacks on. It is getting worse every day. You see them at church sometimes. Write a good piece on it. it's in the Bible, the way women should dress.
I hope I haven’t said anything wrong. Forgive me if I have. My wife and I asked a Preacher to preach on that, but he refused. I hope to see a piece in the paper about it.
-- Name Withheld.
Editor's Note. I appreciate your concern about modest dress, and modest apparel, by both men and women.
We will have to admit that times and fashions are changing and we have to live according to the prevailing circumstances. Even though most women wear pants and slacks now, they are made and designed for women, and are not men's clothing. I prefer to see women wear dresses, but I must admit the slacks and pant suits are much more decent than the short-short dresses and skirts they used to wear.
About the men and boys wearing long hair. All three of my boys, at one time or another have tried out the long hair, full beards, etc. I will have to admit, I don't care for long hair. But I remember when one of my boys let his hair get pretty long, someone asked me if I couldn't get him to cut his hair? I told them I was sure I could, if I made a major issue of it-but after thinking about it, I decided it was not illegal or immoral to wear long hair, and there were other issues more important, like dope and whiskey.
If you want to know why boys and young men wear long hair, and full beards, I can tell you. They wear it because the young women like it that way. If the young women were to tell them to cut it off it would soon be gone.
Long hair, mustaches, and beards come under the heading of personal privilege. I don't like them, but if others do, that is their decision.
I know Paul said in First Corinthians "Doth not nature teach you it is a shame for a man to wear long hair" but we are not interested in what nature teaches us, but what the spirit teaches us.
I am like you, I like to see the women neatly attired in dresses, and the men with good haircuts and clean shaven faces. But I try to be tolerant in these things, for there are other things so much more important. Women can wear dresses, and be indecently dressed, even more so than with modern apparel.
I am sure this is not exactly what you wanted me to write--but this is how I feel about it. Thanks for writing. -- Editor.
What we fear reveals a great deal about us: Our character and culture. Therefore, we would do well to be more objective and realistic in facing up to our fears! Let us look to the word of God for instruction in this, as well as all other matters pertaining to "life and godliness".
"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding". Prov. 9:10. you will find the first clause in this text repeated many times in the scriptures. It must be of utmost importance. Contrasted to that is the following: "The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the Lord shall be safe" Prov: 29:25. These two statements of Holy Writ reveals the basis of most all our fears. Although our fears take on many shapes and come through many avenues, they stem from one or the other of the above. It is also true that many fear the Devil! But this fear in most cases, as is the fear of the Lord with many, "is taught them by the precept of man." This does not mean that the true fear of the Lord is an unteachable proposition! If it is, and I was aware of that fact, I would not be engaged in this present writing. There is a great need, to be able to distinguish between the fear of the Lord, and the fear of man. I hope to be able to do just that, for a while at least.
"Come, ye children; hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the Lord." Psa, 34:11. This is proof of the fact, that the fear of the Lord is, (in some sense of the term) is a teachable proposition. Also, that we need to be taught about this matter, I do not believe that all the teaching we can do will actually "Put the fear of God's in anyone’s heart!" The above text does not say, "Teach you To fear the Lord". But, "Teach you the fear of the Lord". That is, what the fear of the Lord is, and it's distinguishing characteristics so you can tell the difference between the fear of God, and the fear of man. Or that of all other fears for that matter.
The true fear of God emanates from Love! First, the love of God shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost. Second, the manifestation or display of that love in our lives. The fear of man emanates from man and manifests or displays a Lack of Love to God! Notice the contrast again: "The fear of man bringeth a snare." "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom." Again: "The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever:" Psalms 19:9. "Say ye not, A confederacy, to all them to whom this people shall say, a confederacy; neither fear ye their fear, neither be ye afraid." Isa. 8:12 "...and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men." Isa. 29:13. Ah! The many fears that are taught by the precept of men! Even the fear toward God that they teach is by the precept of men! They teach the fear of God in the wrong way for the wrong reason! And, therefore, it produces the wrong results! Their fear being taught them by the precept of men, emanates from men! Therefore, in the final analysis, is of men! And, truly, it does bring a snare! It would take considerable time and space to point out the many fears that are aroused in people as the results of the teachings ''The precepts of men."! Before I have done with this I expect to point out some of them, but I first want to get back to the two basic fears and what produces them.
"There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love". 1 John 4:18. Now this does not mean that being made perfect in love will eliminate all fear of every kind. For then, the fear of God would be eliminated also! The key is to be found in the clause, "Because fear hath torment." Therefore, it must mean, all fears that torment us!" Or that causes torment! The love of God does not torment us! It does bring the spirit of reverential fear, which is born of love! This will enable the child of God to stand and say, "'The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?" Psalms 27:1. And, "In God have I put my trust: I will not be afraid what man can do unto me". Psa. 56:11.
The child of God, who has been made perfect in love, has been delivered from the fear of the devil, and of eternal torment! They that believe in the sovereignty of God, and given a "good hope through grace", have no more fear of the devil than they do of a house cat! That is, from the standpoint of eternal punishment. It might be well for us to have a healthy fear of being "caught unaware" in one of his snares! However, they who have been or rather who are now, completely caught up in and immersed in the love of God, have no fear of that either! Furthermore, they do not fear the bondage of the law either. "For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba Father," Rom. 8:15. That is, we have not received the spirit that makes us afraid we will be brought into bondage again; but we have received the Spirit that makes us cry "Our Father"! And yet-- Oh/ The many fears that beset us, when we are not completely filled with love! God's love in Our hearts! Love of God and one another! Love of the truth! Brotherly Love! Love that never ceases!
O Lord, do thou, "Banish the fear of man away, and smile upon us all". I prefer to say "And fill our hearts with love!"
The Lord willing, and by his grace, I hope to pursue these thoughts a little further in the near future. But in the meantime, ponder this question: Just what am I afraid of! And why?

Our annual July meeting was good from the very start, there were eight ordained ministers and two promising gifts, four states were represented: Missouri, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. The preaching was sound doctrine and comforting, the singing and fellowship was sweet, the church house was full each time except Saturday afternoon, when there were some vacant seats.
It was a joy to see so many brethren and sisters from a far off and some who had never been here before, made our hearts rejoice as we saw them begin coming in, we were saddened when we heard of some who were planning to come but sickness hindered. We truly hope your family or friends have been restored to their wanted health and that you will continue to plan to come see us in July 1982. We still expect a larger crowd in 82. Our meeting has been growing every year since we started in about 1975.
We have electric and water hook-up for 20 camp trailers {sorry no shade trees).
Any Primitive Baptist touring in this vicinity has a free parking place while you look around, if you do not have a camper and are touring in your car, try a night with the Smarts at 1012 South Oak St., in Cortez. We will be glad to have you.
May the Holy Spirit guide each of you and the Peace of God flow in your hearts like broad river and streams that make glad the city of God.

Greetings to fellow travelers of this world of fleeting time. How sweet to rest in hope of an endless life where time and the dark night of death is no more and we will be forever young in one eternal day.
We met for our regular 4th Sunday in July meeting at Walnut Valley Church in Blanchard, Okla. after an uplifting song service, Brother Raymond Crowder offered prayer, Brother Frank Shay went forward and stirred up our pure minds with a hand full of corn followed by Elder Wortman who fed us some good corn bread.
Lord, thou art the bread of life and the water of life. We thank thee for peace and love abounding with our little group. Surely they are eating and drinking of thee.
On 1st Sunday in August, Sister Alyae James came by and we attended. A young man, Timmy Young, had joined the night before at their regular Saturday night before 1st Sunday conference meeting and was to be baptized. He requested Elder Cummings perform the baptismal ceremony.
Elder Bill McCarthy went first followed by Elder Allan West who ably explained water baptism and spiritual baptism, after which we witnessed a beautiful baptismal service of Elder Cummings baptizing Brother Tim.
Brother Cummings has been a faithful soldier of the Cross for many years together with his loving companion, Sister Cummings. We hope we show our appreciation of their many years of dedicated service to the church.
The 2nd Sunday in August was Elder Bill Caraway and regular appointment at Walnut Valley Church in Blanchard, Okla. Although some were absent we enjoyed sweet fellowship and Elder Bill comforted us with good news from that eternal city of light.
The 3rd Sunday in August was Elder Caraway's regular appointment at Bethel Church in Ada, Okla. He and Sister Jeanne came by for me about 8:45 AM and we arrived at church a little after 10 a.m. We had a good rain on Saturday night and it had also rained in Ada and Pauls Valley so we rejoiced for our natural blessings as well as spiritual.
My sweet little 91 year old mother, Sister Ollie Wortman, had been sick but was able to be at church. Two more of their older members were in the hospital, Sister Clara Corbin who had been clerk of Bethel Church for more, than 40 years and Sister Arlie Lambert whose late husband had been a deacon. May the Lord comfort them.
Elder Bill proved the scriptures were written by inspiration and that they are the words of truth that apply to our gospel or common salvation and bring to light, the Word of Life planted in our heart. Surely his message made our calling and election sure to us,
We met in Sister Grigg’s home in Pauls Valley that evening enjoying sweet fellowship with the dear saints who meet here. After church we visited Brother and Sister Cantwell who are not well.
Oh Lord, we thank thee for the truth and for the love manifested by thy saints to each other. Surely the scripture, "We know we have passed from death unto life because we love the brethern", is proven before out very eyes.
In hope of glory now and forever.

"Tradition--The handing down of beliefs, opinions, customs, stories from parents to children."
If tradition does not parallel the word of God, and His will, I do not care who said so, or advocates it, you just give it time, it will boomerang.
The will of God is good sense. It will stand when every concoction of man fails, and is destroyed.
As I preach and write, may God help me to advocate His will, which is truth. I do not want to mislead one of His little ones.
Christ the good and true shepherd--the son of God, the called minister, the under-shepherd ought to be Christ like, or be ashamed of himself.
I believe that in the ninth verse and the tenth chapter of the gospel of John, we can find some light on this subject. The Pharisees so reared, over with tradition, even though one rose from the dead they refused to be persuaded. All my life I have heard some professing to be Primitive Baptists make this remark about other people, that they are just a bunch of Pharisees, and trying to make something out of it. And no doubt about it, they have them, but that is their business and theirs to straighten it out.
Our business is the Primitive Baptists and the Pharisees among them. What are we going to do about it? Do the best we can to teach them out of it, in love, and try as best we can to teach them out of it. And try not to offend them the least or the greatest in the house of the Lord.
John 9:1. and as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth. His disciples wanted to know who did sin, this man or his parents? That he was born blind, like he could have sinned before he was born. People haven't changed, they still don't think any more today than they did then. And wonder what is the trouble. Jesus assured them there was a purpose. That the works of God should be made manifest in this man. God has this occasion planned from his birth, that his son Jesus would perform a miracle, impossible by man, and that before these traditionalized Pharisees. They saw it, and were astonished, to the point. His neighbors, some said it was him, some thought that there was another man that looked like him. But he said I am he. And they got so shook up they got his parents to verify that he was their son. Then they found fault because such a great miracle, impossible by man, was done on the Sabbath day.
His parents only confirmed he was their son. and that he was born blind. Then clammed up by telling the Pharisees he was of age, to ask him, he shall speak for himself. 'Why they did not want to get excluded from the church. The Pharisees had already conspired, had their minds made up. That if anyone confessed Jesus, cast them out.
Then as the Pharisees could not deny what had happened in public. Told the man to give God the praise, which was alright. But this was not alright to them. They said being traditionalized, we know this man is a sinner. Just got to have it their way or bust. The man answered whether this man is a sinner or no, I know not One thing I know , that whereas I was blind, now I see. What a beautiful text to preach from.
They frilled him over and over until it became irritating, made fun of him, smarted off about being Moses’ disciples, and were too stubborn to consider that Moses told of a prophet likened to him that would come. And to hear him.
Now that is the fruit if tradition. An d they cast him out. The poor man excluded for receiving his sight on the Sabbath day, by a man they had declared to be out of order, even the son of God.
You know that was worse than the Diotrephes declaring non-fellowship with John in 3 John 9, 10.
Tradition is alright if it is with thus sayeth the word of God. Right there is where it stops. Man and Satan can have it from there in so far as I am concerned. I don't need it.
How careful we ought to be rightly dividing the word of truth. Our forefathers were precious, but not perfect. Subject to mistakes, no different from us. Then so much we could bring in on this subject. But I feel like I know something more soothing to the ones who truly have the love of God in their hearts.
The will of God and good sense. To do the will of God, it brings a good conscience and happiness, he said that our joy may be full. In our Father's house there is bread to eat, and we will not perish with hunger in doing His will.
Jesus said I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. Should not the under shepherd do likewise? Were not the two milch kine that were tied "not hitched" to the new cart, offered up in the harness? When God calls a man to preach, he will preach or wish he had. He must seek first the kingdom of heaven "the church" God's righteousness, and trust in the Lord to provide the way.
Jesus spoke of an hireling. The worldly institutions are loaded with them. May I say "professional hirelings?'."Shut the money off, and it is just like cutting of the electrical switch, off they go. But that is their business, and not ours to correct.
What our business is, the hirelings among the Primitive Baptists. we have them too.
They have a self interest, and will use the flock just like Jesus said. They can do just fine until the wolf "the devil" appears in one of his multiple forms. They· will leave the sheen and flee. John 10:20. The world catches them. The hirelings and scattereth the sheep. The hireling fleeth because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep. That is what hurts, is the damage to the flock.
And I have my first time to see them all corralled back into the sheep fold "the church." There is always some that get out in the wilderness, and never come back — such a pity.
They get hurt, they become afraid, and will never trust another preacher, Just like the lambs and sheep of the fold, being afraid, it is hard to communicate with them. They go to the wilderness, run wild, and bring no fruit unto perfection.
The words of Christ, I am the good shepherd and I know my sheep, and am known of mine.
He said also, my sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. The old time shepherd never drives his sheep. They know it works better for the sheep to follow them.
When we sound the gospel bells so sweetly, blessed with God's liberty, the little lambs and the sheep, the ones Jesus told Peter to feed, will follow us, and stay when they get there. The ones scared into the fold or enticed some other way, are so unstable. May we prove ourselves with love, and be an example to the flock. I love a stable congregation. Don't you?
Jesus said, and I give unto them eternal life. They are so precious. Did he call me to feed them? I am afraid so. I feel so unworthy when called upon to baptize, the thought of unworthiness always appears. Am I fit to do it?
And they shall never perish. Never--at no time not at all. Perish--to be destroyed, without trace. Preserved in Christ. Neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My father which gave them me is greater than all, and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. I and my father are one.
God's grace is sufficient, all we have or will ever have, we don't need anything else.
For when the fire breaks out, it would get our pearls, all smutted up.
He is God. We are His people, the sheep of his pasture. His way is right. And who are we to say Jehovah, why doest thou? His way is good sense. What is wrong with us using it?
I and my father are one. Glorious thought, Gods will, God's plan, and none can stay his hand. That is perfect.
2 Tim.l:9. Who hath saved us, and called, us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began. But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ. Who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle and a teacher of the Gentiles. For the which cause I also suffer these things, nevertheless, I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day. No question about it.
The shepherd and the hireling are both called of God. The hireling can be tempted and influenced by Satan. Easy to catch and devour, as he walks to and fro in the earth.
The shepherd is Christ like. Let us do all we can to be those among the very elect of God, and walk in the strait and narrow path our Saviour trod. That we will not become ashamed and our joy may be full.
In Christian love.

Reading from Ephesians 5:25, Elder Archie described what the duties of a deacon are and how these duties might be carried out. Preaching on what is expected of a deacon, Elder Robertson admonished Brother Crawford to be faithful to the church and at home, to be just and strict and to look to the Lord for guidance.
Elder Carl Watson then took the stand and delivered the rest of the charge. Ably preaching he spoke of the responsibilities of a deacon and his duty to work together with other deacons to see to the business of the church so that the Pastor might continue in the spiritual business of the church. Elder Watson also spoke to the church and to the other deacons to help Brother Crawford in his performance as deacon.

Our Responsibilities
We have them and they are great because God has asked that we form them.
Eph. 2. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
God set these good works apart. (before ordained). That we should walk in them. So we see there is more than one good work Them. John 6:28-29; Gives us the light on this. Then said they, unto him, what shall we do that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, this is the work of God, that ye believe on him who he hath sent. We can see now, we turn to Jesus for our instructions for works. We take the position the person under these instructions is born of God, hence they have an account with God, as it was with Abraham. Romans 4:1-6, read this. See verse 6 and surely we have to know we have to divide works or we are in a jam, as to understanding the Bible.
Works because of are not to get the love of God, means here the new birth. Get this straight, then go on. See Titus 3:5. Not by works of righteousness which we have done, etc.
Gal. 2:16. Man not justified of works of the law Etc.
John 3:3, 12.1 Peter 3:21. Baptism a good work, sure, but not for our righteousness to save, but the answer of a good conscience, because we worked the work Jesus gave us to work. One of the first go home to thy friends, etc. Mark 5:19. See also Acts 8:26, 40. Get for sure verse 37, the eunuch saying I believe, see believing before being baptized, not being baptized to believe or to become a new creature by the new birth.
Now, we have joined the church, been baptized {immersed) Jesus coming up out of the water, and Jesus when he was baptized went straightway out of the, water, etc. Matt. 3:16. See also Acts 8:38-39. both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and they came up out of the water, etc..
We are buried with Jesus in baptism, and we are to walk in newness of life, 6:4.
In this newness of life {in the church} we find the ordinances of baptism. We have another ordinance, that is communion, showing forth the Lord's death until He comes again. Taking the unleavened bread, and the fruit of the vine (surely wine} to show forth a quickening, the blood that saves His people and the bread, the body that was broken for us.
We surely have to reckon with verse 18 where Jesus said an example I have given you that ye should do as I have done to you. Verse 15. In verse 14 if I then, your Lord and Master have washed your feet, ye also ought (owe) to wash one another's feet. Surely this was not alone to the twelve. This example was given to the twelve to be taught from henceforth.
It is not enough argument for this point, because John was the only one that mentioned it. As I recall John was the only one that said it is finished 19:30, Another thought to prove it, was to be carried on in the church. Paul's teaching in 12 Tim. 5:9,10. The widow to be taken into the number, surely not into the church, and get verse 16 for the answer, if any man or woman that believeth have widows, let them relieve them, and let not the church be charged; that it may relieve them that are widows indeed. See the widow indeed is a charge of the church, should she need it. Now we have our names on the church rolls, we are baptized, we have communed, we have been in the washing of one another’s feet. Do we stop here& No. I see the widow above was to have been well reported for good works, that the children of God should manifest, that become the children of God, making their lives even plainer, act like children of God. To me one of the very first things we need to search ourselves with by scriptural lesson, is a small test word: love. We know we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death. 1 John 3:14, 15. Get it. Then measure our love for the brethren and cause.
For great lessons on love, read the books of John. It will do us good to reread them. A church without proper love is found in Revelation. The one that left her first love. This one searches our hearts. It ought to make us look back, when we first presented ourselves to the church, and loved all the dear brotherhood, had fellowship with them, for they showed their love for us.
Look and read closely John 7:5. To the elect lady and her children. Note, as I write a new commandment. Stay with the old (so to speak) John 1:2, 4, 12. Love perfected.
When we have love, not in word, but action we have a church in action.
I want you to see next the care for the church. I mean how our Lord's people are to care for the material needs of the church, how we should support the church; first it must be by attendance, see the shew bread of old (bread of the face) we show our faces. Ex. 25:30. Lev. 24:5. Neh 10:33. Note in Num. 4:1 (read it all) the table of shew bread was one of the most holy things, verse 4. These things we or. 38:12) see the new excels the old so in our attendance today, it is by grace and not by law, hence in grace it should not be less than by law. I feel it should be more. Law forces us, to me grace propels us. Moses said let those of a willing heart bring the stuff.
In attendance we find to overwhelming commandments, present your bodies a living sacrifice, etc. Romans 12:13. Heb. 10:22, 25. Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is, etc.
There is a need for material things to keep the church moving along. See in the commandments of attendance. We just can't say I will send my check to today, let them know I am there in spirit. We have to present our bodies living sacrifices. Some may say what are these sacrifices? Simply do what the word (Spirit) of God directs and not do the desires of the flesh. I could name many. I feel you know what these many are.
No longer are we under tithes, a tenth started with Abraham to the king. Heb. 7:13, get Gen. 14:20. This was fulfilled in Christ. Matt. 5:18.
This being true, it does not lesson our obligations, rather there should be an increase in them. Joseph a type of Christ to preserve life was sold for twenty pieces of silver. Jesus was sold for thirty pieces. Surely then the grace dispensation has more value. In the grace dispensation we are put under grace, in the law it was by direct order; a tenth. By grace we are to lay by in store as God hath prospered us.
Again, to build on this, get 2 Cor. 9:5, 8. In 6 we see our sowing, some sparingly, some bountifully, so also we see how we reap. Let every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity (so as by law) for God loveth a cheerful giver. Note, for sure verse 8 and God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye always having all sufficiency in all things, may bound to every good work.
Verse 9 notice he remaineth forever. This was a promise, early in the dispensation. Matt. 6:27, 34. Seek ye first the kingdom of God (the Church) and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.
This last commandment, and Promise should be enough that every one of us would do out duty along this line, taking care of the church, knowing God is not slack concerning his promises, as some men count slackness, etc. He is long suffering.
As our duty in the church we ought not look over forgiveness. Much could be written on this subject, but I see space closing. Three scriptures should make us all search out hearts. First one, by our Saviour, He who know more about forgiveness than we all, Father, forgive them. Matt. 6:12. Jesus teaching us how to pray. And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. Were we to do this, forgive as Jesus forgives us, there would be very little ill feeling among us. Then see verses 14 and 15 For if we forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly father will also forgive you. But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your father forgive your trespasses.
Second, to search ourselves. Jesus said pray for your enemies. Matt 5:43-45. I find it so easy when I try to pray to forget this. I hope you don't. Looking over the words of prayer, I see this over looked.
Third, we have this on vengeance. See it in the heart of Jesus. Isa. 63: 1, 6, 4. So to speak, I left it in my heart and turned it not to His people. Hence we see, dearly beloved, all His people, not a small group here or there, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath, for it is written vengeance is mine. I will repay, saith the Lord. This is an old saying, read it in Deut. 32:35. To me (to God) belongeth vengeance, let us try to remember this.
In the balance of my writing on this needed subject, so much is said upon it, just what we should do to have a good conscience toward God.
What wilt thou have me to do? Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God which worketh in you, both to will and to do of His own good pleasure.
This sure makes big to do, enough to keep us busy in our own backyard, not trying to keep our neighbor's house or church clean.
So I must use chapter and verse, or pin point. Fellowship -- do we have it in a Bible sense, or do we have a lip service? And touch down here and there. A great lesson on fellowship is found in 1 Cor. 1:9. God is faithful by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of His son Jesus Christ our Lord.
Note, verse 10 says by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, there be no divisions among you, etc. See Phil. 1:5, 2:1, 3:10. We are brought close to fellowship in Eph. 2:19. Fellow citizens with the saints. Get to close 1 John 1:3, 4. For a full joy. For truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with His son, Jesus Christ.
A bit on behave. 1 Tim. 3:15. How thou ought to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth. See Psalms 101:2, 1 Cor. 13:5, 1 Thes. 2:10, 2 Thes. 3:7. The Bible is full of these instructions and unto all good work. 2 Tim. 3:12, 17. There is not a subject we come into contact with that we cannot find an answer for in the Bible, Let us dig deep, for we are in contact with deep things.
For a quickie to search, look at Jesus to the seven churches of Asia. Rev. 2, 3. Study them for answers, if you can read the writing of men, take time to read their pointings to chapter and verse. It is better to get it from the Bible, for many times we read before and after quotations, or we should at least, and lessons are brought to us.
I will close this article on the church. The half has not been told, nor can I, or any man do this.
I must confess when my mind got on this line, it seemed to me I could confine it closer than I have.
Please look over my ramblings,
In gospel bonds.
Ira M. Fry (Elder)
Foundation is that which is built upon. The underlying principle or quality and quantity. As amusing as it seems, about 2000 years B. C. men were going to build a tower that reached to heaven. They did not know how high to build it, or how high they would have to go, hence they could not estimate to the finest point how large they ought to build or how much foundation to lay.
The idea of men failed then, and all ideas since then, and any that will be of men will fail. See Genesis 11th chapter.
As to the foundation, my mind is on, let us go to Job 38 and see the questions. God asked Job out of the whirlwind, please read all of chapter 38. Then get verse 54. Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? Declare if thou has understanding. Note, the book said foundations of the earth, so by this I conclude we can consider all the foundations God laid. As mortal eye can see or mind think, we are at a loss to see. Job 26:7. He hangeth the earth on nothing. We are at a loss to see. We have nothing under us but God. To me this seems a lot. God, Jesus Christ, the same yesterday and today and forever. With such a foundation His people can sing and rejoice and rest assured in singing How Firm a Foundation, etc.
Just what one scripture to use for a text to start on puzzles me. It seems like Isah. 28:16, and also 14 and 15. Therefore thus saith the Lord. God behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation, a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation, he that believeth shall not make haste. They that believe will just wait upon the Lord. They will not run here and there looking for that which will not come. But is already here.
Let me say here I should have said it earlier to show we have a right to leave all foundations out, but the one that deals with the salvation of His people. You know what the Lord's portion of this earth is, if not get Duet. 32:9 for the Lord's portion is His people, Jacob is the lot of his inheritance. Jacob have I loved, Esau have I hated. Romans 9:13. You will have to enlarge on this angle as you do it, note God changed Jacob's name to Israel. Gen. 32: 28. Mal. 3:6. Israel my people, says God.
We see now what God wants and surely He will have what He wants. His people. Think how we would do what we want. Then think of how He can work to get what he wants, thinking of this all powerful God we could use one scripture. If all others seem alike. 2 Tim. 2:15. This would be enough to prove our point, nevertheless, the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, the Lord knoweth them that are his. And let everyone that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. See Eph 2:19-22. And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone. Please read this, then Matt. 16:19, 21, 42.
We hear the cry, work, work. Let us heed the cry and work. Phil. 2: 9, 15. Let us heed the cry and work. Phil. 2: 9, 15. But don't stop with a part of verse 12. Work out your own salvation, but get the fear and trembling for sure. But make it fit verse 15. that ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God without rebuke, etc.
Not fear and trembling that you are going to hell. Always get verse 13. For it is God which worketh in you, both to will and to do of His own good pleasure. Not therein you. See Phil. 1:6. He which hath begun a good work in you. Heb. 8:7. I will put my laws in your mind, and write them you their hearts, etc. Go to Isaiah nine, the Lord sent a word into Jacob and it hath alighted on Israel. The same in as Christ in you, till hope of glory. Col. 1:27. See Col. 1:13 INTO the kingdom of his dear son. In whom we have redemption through His blood, even the forgiveness of sins. Etc.
Yes, we are to work, but not to build a foundation. Get 1 Cor. 3:1, 17. Ye are God's building. Paul said I have laid the foundation. He, a wise master builder, and another buildeth thereon, but to take heed how we do this.
The clincher is in verse 11. For other foundations can no man lay than that which is laid which is Christ. Get again Isa. 28:16. See the building upon this foundation in verse 12. See the gold, silver, precious stones, then the wood, hay and stubble man can grow acres of this. But gold and silver and precious' stones God alone can make these. Don't try to run in manufactured things, for when this was given, there were none known.
Note in verses 5, 13, 15. where the man's works Are tried by fire. Baptized by the Holy Ghost, so to speak. What do you think will become of the wood, hay and stubble in the fire? Man’s work will be burned. The gold, silver, and precious stones are the God-given things. Let us take them and put, build, them upon the foundation of Christ which is laid. Note also only the works are burned, the man himself is saved.
Yet his works are saved, so as by fire. Again the fire shows the Holy Ghost. We have studied a bit on the foundation, the tried stone, Christ. See Matt. 4:1, 11. Jesus tempted by the devil. The sweet stone, the precious stone, the corner stone. The chief corner stone. Eph. 2:20. the headstone.

Brother Richards, 1 have been intending to order the paper for some time, but when I read your column on a strong plea for moderation, I was deeply impressed. We need more ministers to stand up for what you wrote and I want you to know I really got a blessing out of what you said. Thank God for it.
If we don't have more ministers to stand up for and contend for what is right, how will we know this. I have heard one thing, and then another.
I have not always been a Primitive Baptist and sometimes when I hear all the gossip and talk I wonder if it isn't better to be a nothing than to be associated with some who believe one thing, and others who believe something else.
We need more ministers to lay out the doctrine the way it is and if it step’s on someone’s toes, that is just too bad. But I feel like if our ministers would do this and not preach to try to fit someone's request our churches would grow.
Tell it like it is. We need pastors and ministers we can learn from and follow the way they lead us.
My husband has been disabled since 1976. Please remember us in your prayers.
I do love the Primitive Baptist Church and what it stands for. I believed the doctrine when I joined and I want it to stay the same way and I don't want to see it modernized. I just want to try to live in peace with everyone. God help us to do this. This life is too short to spend in fussing and trouble.
Please remember us in your prayers. God bless you

We have enjoyed very much hosting the 100th annual Session of the Primitive Baptist Association of Texas here at the Gulf Coast Primitive Baptist Church. There was much love and fellowship all around, and Glory given to God only who deserves it.
This is not written for the Church, but since I am sending my renewal--I felt a need to say something. I am sure they all agree with me we were richly blessed during this Association.
My thanks to our many friends who labored with us, and for the gifts of food donated.

The Little Albuquerque Primitive Baptist Church of Albuquerque, N.M. hosted a special meeting from Friday night, June 19th, until after lunch Sunday, June 21, 1981. One of the sweetest experiences is to observe the ingathering of God's little children on Friday evening from the different parts of the great land of ours. Each of nine servants of God brought a heavy load, not messages written on paper, but precious manna concealed in their hearts for the children of God.
After a few preliminaries, such as eating and visiting, singing praises to our Lord and Saviour, and a fervent prayer by Elder Kenneth Martin of Muleshoe, Texas, Elder Gene Herriage of Phoenix, Ariz., took the stand and preached Christ, the beloved. He read parts of the Song of Solomon including Chapter 2, verse 3. "As the apple tree among the trees of the wood, so is my beloved among the sons. I sat down under his shadow with great delight, and his fruit was sweet to my taste". The congregation did not sit down under the shadow of a large apple tree and partake of the fruit that was sweet to the taste, but she sat "under the shadow of the Almighty" and was served manna from above by nine Servants of God; each Elder was overly anxious to please .his Lord by serving food from above to the precious brothers and sisters, "the bride of Christ". Elder Herriage preached a wonderful sermon.
He was followed by young, Elder Jeff Harris of Lovington, N.M. and pastor of the Portales Primitive Baptist Church. The Albuquerque Church remembers with much interest the first time that Brother Jeff, age 16, at that time, went forward to introduce; he was caught completely off guard. His father, Elder M. Leonard Harris, Jr. who was the Pastor of the Albuquerque Church felt duty bound to call his son to the stand because young Jeff had been reglecting reading and studying his Bible, a habit he had formed when much younger. Poor Brother Jeff managed to turn to a few scriptures one of which was James 2:17 "Even so faith, if it had not works, is dead, being alone." It was not long after that when his father spoke encouraging words, "Son, You didn't introduce tonight, you preached''. So, on this Friday night again he preached, starting his discourse by saying "How do you know that the Primitive Baptist Church is the true church?" He told them briefly how we know.
On Saturday morning after prayer by Brother Jesse Doyle of Phoenix, Ariz. Elder Kenneth Martin and Elder Glen Lauderdale of Midland, Texas, were blessed to fill the pulpit. It is almost impossible to give deserved credit to these men of God who have preached many, many years; but they were both blessed to feed God's little children with food from above.
On Saturday afternoon Brother Jesse Doyle filled the stand, taking for his subject "The Sabbath Day", stating that the Sabbath Day was a type and shadow of Jesus Christ. He, no doubt, had given it much thought. He was followed by Elder M. Leonard Harris, Jr. of Bloomfield, N.M., who was also blessed to preach the word. During his discourse, he brought out many precious lessons, one of which was the difference between Time and Eternal Salvation.
On Saturday night after prayer by Elder Kenneth Martin, Elder Jerry Christian, Pastor of the Hobb's Primitive Baptist Church, preached, on Love, "The Savior's Love for Us". He told how God cares for us; gives us food, clothing, and gives us the church. "Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom." (Church). He also mentioned the fact that we were His children by adoption and by birth. Since this Elder and his good wife have recently adopted a tiny baby boy, age 14 days at the time of the meeting, he could have, no doubt, used his entire time preaching on adoption, how this little son, without any choice of his own, became heir to him and his wife, how he became a brother to their daughter. By their love and action, this little son has become a joint heir. (Elder Christian never mentioned once in his sermon that he had a new adopted son. )
He was followed by Elder Gene Herriage, his second discourse during the meeting. This time he preached on the "Great I Am", the great work of God from the beginning to eternity. He also mentioned the fact that after a meeting such as this he enjoys "chewing the cud", going over the different lessons brought out by the various ministers.
Sunday morning seemed to have come too quickly, a few more sermons, noon lunch, and the children of God would disperse in all directions. The congregation had feasted and rested under the shadow of the Almighty during parts of three days, but they must return to their places of abode. After a song service and a fervent prayer by Elder M Leonard Harris, Jr. it was announced that Elder Glen Lauderdale, Pastor of Lamesa Texas, would come forward first, Brother Glen was greatly moved; he shooked, he trembled, and he wept bitterly but silently. It seemed as if an invisible angel was on each of his shoulders, the angel from Satan on his left and the angel from Heaven on his right. The angel from Satan was whispering "Glen, you have chosen a subject too big for you; you can never put it together and make sense, the other ministers will ridicule you." The angel from God was saying, "Brother Glen, what has come over you? I have never let you down. Stand up on both feet, look at the congregation straight in their eyes and start with assurance." He listened to his Lord of Heaven. He went forward stating that he would be alright in a minute or so, and he was. He preached a powerful sermon on the great "Powers of God," giving different illustrations portrayed throughout the Bible.
He was followed by Elder Loren Brinson of Spencer, Indiana. He was also blessed to preach the truth. It is very comforting .to have a minister to come from a great distance and hear him preach the same precious truth. Thank you, Brother Brinson, for your surprised visit and your most uplifting sermon.
Elder Lonnie Wright, Pastor of the Albuquerque Primitive Baptist Church and the Tucumcari Primitive Baptist Church brought the services to a beautiful close. He talked briefly on the great resurrection of the dead. He stated that these bodies of ours, these same bodies, will rise from the dead. He furthe r commented "A body may be mangled to the extent that only a part of it can be buried, it will rise a complete body. Regardless of how long it has lain in the earth, has changed to dust, it will rise again". He could have said, "If there be no resurrection of the dead...then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain". I Cor. 15:13, 14. In other wards, if there be no resurrection, why all this preaching, but there will be a glorious resurrection. May God richly bless each of you. Sincerely submitted, Lucy P. We the Snyder Oklahoma Primitive Baptist Church as host to the Association which began on Thursday night before the 2nd Sunday in August, 1981. Held in Mountain Park, Okla.
We thank the Lord for a good and sweet meeting with wonderful fellowship.
Our meeting was well attended also there was seventeen (17) Primitive Baptist ministers present.
We want to thank each of you for the assistance in helping make our association a success.

Our third Sunday annual meeting in August, and the week following through Thursday night at the Franklin Church in Franklin, Tenn. has come and gone. It started with great disappointment. Elder Jerry Hennessee from the McMinnville Church to be our guest speaker was put in the hospital on Friday night before.
We thought of everything, finally we came up with the idea to use the home preachers, and the visitors that chose to come through the meeting. So we did.
We have Elders Bennie Hargrove, James Ferntress and myself, for home preachers and members of the Franklin church.
Well, the visitors began to appear. Like Brother Herbert Davis from Rushing Creek Church, Decaturville, Tenn.; Elder Lynn Russell, Mt. View Church, Smithville, Tenn., James Davis, Waverly Church, Waverly, Tenn.; Elder Melvin Qualls, Brush Creek Church, Linden, Tenn.; Elder A. D. Foster and Jacob Huff, from Richland Church, Nashville, Tenn.; Elder James Land from Little Springs Church, Lake Butler, Fla.; and Thursday night Elder Hennessee got able to come. He brought two car loads with him. We have had one of the sweetest meetings we have ever had. We used all our visitors in some way. We so appreciate them and don't know how we could live without them. How sweet to dwell together in unity and let the devil take his business somewhere else. All preached with the power and liberty from God.
Elder Foster, pushing 88 years of age. We have to help him in and out of the pulpit Preached a short discourse. His voice is soothing and convincing. How we like to hear it ring out again. He had to close, his strength will not let him stand long. We ail love him so much. He was the center of attraction of the meeting. He is a father and grand father to us all. I am glad we can cause almond tree to flourish, for his doors are almost shut in the street. The preacher Solomon surely was thinking of some one just like him when he wrote in Eccl. 12th chapter.
So Elder Hennessee preached out last discourse of our meeting to a house filled to capacity. His mind is so clear, he can unravel scriptures so many of us have to leave alone.
Every time we hear him we learn something. I am learning and I don't want to stop. I want to know more about the ways of our Lord.
Elder James Land left a meeting at Donaldson, Ark., and drove all day very much off of his route home to hear Elder Hennessee. He got here Wednesday night and preached himself; He was tired after fighting the traffic all day. But the Lord blessed him just the same.
I know it is hard to preach after driving several hours. I have tried it too many times myself. They all were wonderful. I know where it comes from and they do too.
Friday night the 21st following our meeting the church had a good social gathering to talk about the blessings the Lord has bestowed upon us. Members, visitors, from sister churches, some at least 80 miles from home, or better. Elder Qualls and family came back from Linden, Elder James Land and wife stayed over from Florida, a host of neighbors and friends, no way to estimate the number of people. Our parking space was full and they had to park out in the street.
I hope the church saw fit to make an annual affair of this. The night after our meeting closed. We fed them on catfish, hamburgers, hot dogs, slaw, potato salad, pickles, cantaloupes, pies and cakes, soft drinks and coffee, just about anything that goes with fish fry and hamburger grilling. Everyone was so happy. The love that we saw flow from
breast to breast, it was worth it all.
The Primitive Baptists have more to love each other for than anyone, and salvation by grace to go with it. May God bless us to continue.
God is love. The best we can do is to love one another, as He has asked us to do. May we strive to live so He will not be ashamed of us, The blessings we have received this past week prove his love in a bountiful way. May we all rejoice and give God the glory. From whence all blessings can only come.
Rejoicing in a Saviour's love.

If we lived in a country where we were under a king, and he sent his messengers to us saying we must come appear before him one day a week, wouldn't we go?
If we were in need of help in Which he was the only one who was able to help us, even if it was several times a day wouldn't we go to him and ask him for it?
If he sent his messengers to us saying there were some poor people in the kingdom who needed help ·and we have the money to help them, wouldn't we help them?
Also if he told us of sick people we who needed help and we were able to help them wouldn't we help them?
And crippled and blind people if he asked us wouldn't we help them?
Why would we help them? Because we'd be afraid not to because of what he was capable of doing to us. We'd be frightened of his power.
Well, we have a great and powerful King in Heaven who is capable of doing a lot worse to us than any human king. He can even cast us into hell.
"Oh", you say, "We aren't supposed to be afraid of Him". "He's too kind to treat his people that way"
Of course we aren't supposed fear God like we would a man. God's not changeable but all of the Bible leaders taught fear of the Lord.
Moses said; "fear not, for God is come to prove you, and that His fear may be before your faces, and ye sin not."
Samuel said: "Only fear the Lord, and serve Him in, truth with all your heart: So consider how great things He has done for you."
David said, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom--a good understanding have all they that do His commandments, his peace endureth forever.
Jonah said, "I fear the Lord, the God of heaven, which has made the sea and the dry land."
Jesus in the New Testament said--"Fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul, but rather fear Him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell".
In another place Jesus also Said, "But I forewarn you whom you shall fear, "Fear Him, which after He hath killed hath power to cast into hell, yea I say unto you, Fear Him."
Paul said, "Submitting ourselves one to another in the fear of God."
In Revelation an angel said: "Fear God"

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
We at Providence Primitive Baptist Church in Corsicana, Texas truly enjoyed the blessings of the Lord this past 3rd weekend in July. Elder Sonny Pyles preached for us Friday night, Saturday morning and afternoon. The Lord, ever knowing of His children's particular needs, brought us those very things by His able ministers, including our beloved
pastor, Elder Walter Stevenson, Elders O. Moseley and John Casey.
We partook of a sweet communion service Sunday morning, enjoyed natural food, then entered into conference that afternoon. During this conference, we began the ordination of Brother Billy Mosely to the office of Deacon. The Presbytery called on our pastor, Elder Walter Stevenson to moderate, Brother Clyde Richards as clerk and Elder John Casey of Waco to interrogate Brother Billy. Brother Billy asked for His Father, Elder Octor Moseley to deliver the charge, assisted by Elder Stevenson, which was granted. Brother Carl Arnold was' selected as the spokesman for the church. All proceedings were deemed satisfactory and Brother Billy Moseley was delivered as a duly ordained deacon to the church on Sunday, July 19, 1981.
Brother Billy, his wife, Cissy and their two boys live in Waxahachie. He is exercising in, the ministry and is a fine
example of courage and conviction in the truth for all of us. We rejoice in gifts such as God sends us.
Finally brethren, as Paul wrote, pray for us, that the word of the Lord might have free course as it is with you. We thank God for peace and truth and pray He will continue to entrust it in our care. Please visit us. It would be good for both of us!

The Bible is full of such days, it's record is made up of them, it's songs inspired by them; it's prophecy is concerned with them; and it's revelation has come through them. The desperate days are the stepping stones in the path of light. They seem to have been God's opportunity, and man's school of wisdom.
There is a story of an old testament love feast in Psalms 107. And in every story of deliverance the point of desperation was the beginning of God's power. Every page of the Bible confirms the testimony
Recall the promise of seed as the stars of heaven, and as the sand of the seashore to a couple as good as dead. Read again the story of the Red Sea, and it's deliverance, and of Jordan with it's deliverance and of Jordan with it's ark standing mid-stream. Study once more the prayers of Asa, Jehosaphat, and Hezekiah, when they were sore pressed and knew not what to do. Go over the history of Nehemiah, Daniel, Hosea and Habakkuk. Stand with awe in the darkness of Gethsemane and linger by the grace in Joseph's garden through those terrible days. Call the witness of the early church and ask the apostles the story of their desperate days. The Bible is one long record of desperate days, and its pages are written for desperate days of all ages. The grief free cannot read it, dry eyes cannot find it's treasures. It is for the broken hearted.
I never knew the meaning of the 23rd Psalm till I heard my mother repeat it as her feet Couched the river. The "wise and the prudent" are blind to it's mysteries but to the babes and the broken hearted it is made known. Faith did not make our desperate days, it's work is to sustain and solve them. The only alternative to a desperate faith is despair and with a firm grip faith holds on and prevails, despair looks hopelessly at the problem, desperate faith trusts God against all odds. Hear what Job says from the ruined heap of his life, "Though He slay me yet will I trust in Him", Isaiah says, "Who is among you that feareth the Lord, that obeyeth the voice of His servant that walketh in darkness and hath no light? Let him trust in the name of the Lord, and stay upon his God. There is no more heroic example of desperate faith than that of the three Hebrew children. The situation was desperate enough but they answered bravely, "Our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning firey furnace and He will deliver us out of thine hand, O king, but if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy God, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up". I like that, "but if not".
I have only space to mention Gethsemane. Ponder deeply it's Never the less! Never the less!

The New Hope Primitive Baptist Church of Fredericksburg, felt an answer to her prayers during our annual June meeting.
We felt and witnessed the Spirit with each minister as he was called upon to preach the word of God. There was a continuity in their preaching, and some very powerful sermons were delivered.
We thanked God for sending us the many ministers, namely, Elders J. A. Rowell Jr., Dale Magers, Bill Walden, Hugh Montgomery, Michael Montgomery, Frank Robertson, Rip Morrisett, Norman Cooper, Jack Johnson and Manuel Griffin together with our pastor, J. P. Dale, Jr.
Elders Boys Chambers and Luther Porter had planned to be with us, but due to illness in their families, they were unable to attend.
It is with great anticipation we look forward to our 5th Sunday meeting in August. Services will begin Saturday morning on through Sunday noon. We extend a special invitation to all to come worship with us. We are praying that God will again pour out His Spirit, and that we can feel His mighty presence in sending us ministers laden with the gospel of truth.
We are in peace and enjoying sweet fellowship each time we meet. Our church is located at 405 West Burbank Street, Fredericksburg, Texas.
We will be looking forward to seeing you the 5th Sunday weekend in August.

I am sending my check for renewal for The Banner of Love. I don't want to miss a single issue. The sweet words of your writers brightens many dark Skies for me. Brother Richards, your article in the April issue, "Much More" meant so much to me. The old minister spoke of the churches faith, well its that way with our loved ones, (children) they do not always do what we want and wish them to, as you pointed out though its because of sin. But praise God there is something much stronger than sin, and that is the grace of God.
Just recently I was driving to church alone, and was so heavy hearted and begging the Lord to help me.
As Elder Wayne Peters opened the service, he began talking to us on Psalms 37, I never shall forget it--verse 1-Fret not thyself because of evil doers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. I came home and read the complete chapter. Thank the Lord. He does hear His little children when they cry, Lord have mercy.
They will say, "This is a new generation, what's bad for you, isn't necessarily bad for me". Yes, I do admit times have changed, but God's word is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow and will never change.
Elder G. H. Crain's article, "Rock of Ages'', was so beautifully written. in March of '79, Elder Joe Hildreth led a group to Egypt and Israel. We got to see the Rock (tradition says) that Moses smote. It was a beautiful sight. Elder Hildreth plans to lead another group in March '82. Also, Nov. 4th, Elder Reuben Monk of Shreveport, La. and I will be taking a group to Egypt and Israel. We would be glad for as many as have a desire to go with us. I will send a brochures to any who write and let me know. So will Elder Monk, 5955 Diane Street, Shreveport, La. 71119.

I would like to try and write a little note to the Banner. I enjoy all the letters and other write ups in it. I don't get to attend church anymore..
I enjoyed Elder Freddy Boon's sermon on the radio every Sunday morning, but I don't get that service anymore. I understand he is not there anymore.
This month, 70 years ago, I asked for a home with the Primitive Baptist, and I still love what they stand for. My mother joined at the same time, and we were baptized in a tank out in a pasture. I believe they call them stock tanks. Anyway, it was winter and there was ice everywhere--on the ground and on the trees. We had to go two miles in an open hack to get to a place to change our wet clothes. Some feared for my mother, who was in her seventies at the time. But it didn't bother her.
Zion Church was constituted June 28, 1884 in the Black Creek Community in Medina County, seven miles west of Devine at that time. It was a large church with lots of members.
I joined the church in San Antonio. My husband worked on the street car there.
Later, we moved to East Texas--Hawkins. There was no church of our faith there, so I didn't get to put my letter in a church until we came to Markel, and I put my letter in out at Sand Burr, near Anson. So, they had to give up that Church, and all the members that were left moved their letters to Abilene. Elder J. L. Collins was their pastor.
So, then a few pulled out of Abilene and had a little church here in Merkel. We had a sweet little church. We held out 16 years, but it got to be such a few and the pastors had to come so far.
We had the Association here once. It was a good one too.
I live alone. I get awful lonesome. My husband of sixty-five years will be gone four years the tenth of September.
I will be 86 in January. I'm doing very well. My eyesight has failed, but I think of all the good meetings we used to have. I wanted to try and write this to let everyone know I'm still around, and the good Lord has been good to me and my family. Bless his Holy name!
Pray for me. May He be with us all.
Come visit me. Would love to have you.
Sincerely,
Annie DuBose

P.S. It would bring comfort and joy to me to hear from other Primitive Baptists.
The Lord's people have a bed that is well located, and in a pleasant place. "The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures. He leadeth me beside the still waters". This is a beautiful setting for a bed beside the still waters. Notice it is beside still waters, not muddy or troubled waters. Now this, "Behold thou art fair, my beloved, yea, pleasant; Also our bed is green." This certainly proves that the Lord's people have a bed, a place to rest, and they should strive to enter into this rest. Davis said, "If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there; if I make my bed in hell, behold thou art there". The Lord is with His people regardless what they do, if obedient He is there to comfort or give rest, if disobedient. He is there to chastise them. Whatsoever a man soweth that shall he also reap. Green suggest life, growth, nourished and flourishing. Those who are taught properly they have bed that they can rest upon and very comforting to the soul. The Bible teaches that the way that God saves one is the way all are saved that are saved. "Verily I say unto you, whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he not enter therein". Well, as the little child could not receive the gospel as taught by some and be saved, proves that God saves both the same way, separate and apart from works. It is plainly taught in the word of God that eternal salvation does not come by works nor according to our works; but by the grace of God. See Romans 4:6, "God imputed righteousness without works" This was shed on us abundantly by the Lord Jesus Christ. This is the church's bed, plenty of covering to cover all the sins of His people, for He was made to be sin for us. Some are like this, "For the bed is shorter than that a man can stretch himself on it; and the covering to narrow than that he can wrap himself in it." As some claim Christ covered our sins, if we accept or take hold of it, if this is not done by the man then he is lost. It will keep him pulling for a covering, when the Lord's people are properly taught the can rest on the bed of God, for he covered our sins, being made sin for us. Bought with a price, not depending on any part of our works helping in any as for as Heaven is concerned, but depending on any part of our works helping in any as for as heaven is concerned but through the imputed righteousness of our Lord separate and apart from works. We feel sure in an eternal sense sufficient was His blood. I know there are blessings to be enjoyed by the Lord's people in obedience here in time, and they will enjoy this resting place, the place where Christ leads by the still waters and to rest on the green grass. We should work for what Christ has already done for us, and not from a selfish stand point, claim we must help the Lord, get the people up to the point where God will save them. Rest with us the Bible claims for His people. This is a beautiful and comforting bed.
Elder A.D. Wood
I am sending my money for the Banner of Love, I believe it expires in September and I don't want to miss not one issue for I enjoy reading about the wonderful meeting the Lord's dear people are having all around this state of ours.
When I get down in the valley and so depressed I just read my Banner of Love and I feel I am not alone anymore for they can tell my feeling better than I ever could. You see I am a 73-year old widow, living alone and sometimes I feel I haven't got a friend on earth, then when the Lord gives me a heart to pray--I can't describe the sweet peace and comfort it brings for I can sing Grace this is a charming sound, and Oh how sweet tis to die I am so glad that this world is not my home. I am looking for a City not built by hands. But sometimes I can't see the dear Lord could love and shed his precious blood for a poor sinner like me.
This is getting too lengthy so I will close hoping you can understand at least some of what I have tried to say.
Please remember me when at a throne of grace for I need the prayers of all God's saints.
Your little sister,
in sweet hope of a better place,
Leavil Cooley
