Oden, Ark.
"That as sin hath reigned unto death even so shall grace reign unto eternal life". Exactly as sin reigned unto death, so shall grace reign.
How did we become members of the race of Adam? By acquiring, by achieving or by believing? No. We are natives of Adam by birth. "Even so" we become natives of heaven. Just as we become heirs of Adam by birth, we become heirs to grace and glory by birth of the spirit. "Not of works lest any man should boast". Did we get the first birth by believing our way into Adam? Did we have to believe and accept something to get the first birth?
Remember as we get one "even so" we get the other. If w e g e t the first birth by believing, then "even so" would we get the new birth. But as the first birth is wholly unconditional on our part, "even so" is the birth of the Spirit wholly unconditional on our part. We were passive in both.
Now let us take cognizance of the street in which the "simple" young men were journeying. The eye of the King was upon these boys. And they were safe inside Jerusalem. (And if that harlot should deceive them it would not take them out of the city).
Some people say when you are born of God that you will sail along on flower? beds of ease. But this is not true.
In this "street" there were storms, there was "violent agitations". "Tempest tossed". "Troubled". "I am a poor wayfaring stranger". Not withstanding the infallible state of these people of God in Christ, they are in a "street" or state of bitter agitation. In a place where they are tempest tossed.
Notwithstanding, the sorrows, the conflicts, the heavy cross, the' h e a r t a c h e s, the blinding tears, all in this street are pilgrims journeying to a country far above this vale of sorrow to a city, "Whose builder and maker is God".
According to one of the best authorities this "street is crowded", According to Smith this "street was a great wide way' And it is "crowded". By one of the best, authorities, or that I consider best, there was an "influx of blood" that covered the inhabitants of this street.
It caused a mighty "rushing current", that "draws", that rescues and that finally "delivers," at the end of this street or journey. This mighty "current" that "rushes" shall certainly and surely and safely take all in this "crowded street" to home sweet home.
Paul was inside this street. Some say it means narrow and difficult. But it was a wide street. Straight means on the "level", or "true".
T h o s e in this street were "on the level with God". Or square with God. They were born of God. Hence on a "level" with God. They are an "elevated people".
This great street was not the "straight and narrow way", that leads to life in the church here on this earth.
The people in this broad way, or large and crowded street of Jerusalem, are the only ones interested in the things the true mother has to offer, "Wisdom hath builded her house ".
This house is in this great street. It has comforts, it shelters us from the agitating storms that sweeps through this street.
There is bread and meat in her house. It is a place of rest for the weary. "He that is simple let him turn in hither".
How blest is Gods child who dwells in this house. But cursed is the ones who dwell in the house of the harlot, Not eternally but timely. "Her guests are in the depths of hall', This is not an eternal hell.
"Wisdom hath builded her house", This is the house of the true mother, She has her tables set replete with the best of food ever served to Gods hungry people. It is not only delicious, but is very nourishing.
It gives strength to Gods people. It comforts them in their sorrows, strengthens them in their weakness, and gives to them sweet rest.
Yes, here the bed of Solomon awaits you. It gives you rest and warmth. Gods people fare well in here if they behave themselves. I want to dwell in this house as long as I struggle here in this life.
God's people in the harlots house are in trouble. They are partakers of the "plagues of Babylon".
Remember child of grace that the fair daughters of men are not your friends. "Go home to thy friends"°
Suppose a little mourning child of God should go to old Babylon, and tell them, "that I am so vile so prone to sin". What would they get. They would not pour oil in the wounds. They would tell them, "If you were born of God you would not be feeling that way".
No don't lust after her carnal beauties. "Her house is the way to hells going down to the chambers of death". --Solomon. Remember the strong man Sampson.
He w as a valiant: soldier. He fought many battles, gained many victories for his people. But not withstanding he was led from the true Mother.
He married a Philistine flirt. And he followed her to a sightless life of bondage.
In following her he lost his eye sight and his liberty and finally wound up grinding at the mill.
Still it seemed that he loved his native land. I know of some Old Baptists or were old Baptist that have lost their sight and are grinding in the mills of Arminianism.
Oh, if we do not wish to loose our eye sight and be to where we can not view the beauty of the Kings then we better not lust after her gorgeous beauty. Listen not to her enticing words, incline not your heart after her. Do not listen to her deceptive "peace offerings".
She will tell you that unless you accept of her peace offerings that you will go to hell. Remember that Jesus made the one and only peace offering for those in that Street. "Oh, thou afflicted", storm tossed pilgrims. Remember at the end of this great "Freeway" this way of storms and trials, the great blood propelled mighty current of redeeming love, the sovereign irresistible whirlwind of grace shall take us all in its mighty power and carry us like it did Elijah home to heaven.
There to praise Jesus forever.
M. A. Norman Oden, Ark.
From the writings of the late Elder J. B. Hardy
AND BEING MADE PERFECT HE BECAME THE AUTHOR OF ETERNAL SALVATION UNTO ALL THEM THAT OBEY HIM
We have been requested to give our views upon Hebrew 5: 9 which reads "And being made Perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him."
This teaches the result of Christ's suffering.
1. As respecting himself, he was made perfect.
2. As respecting his people, he became the author of salvation to them.
We shall first notice in what sense Christ was made perfect. 'It would not have been in his divinity, for in that he was already perfect and it would b e extremely absurd to talk about imperfect divinity. Just as well talk about an imperfect God; for God alone is divine. And Christ in his divinity was the very God. St. John hl, 14 Phil. 2.5,6 Let t h this s mind be in you which was also in Christ, Jesus; who being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God. Would it not be robbery for one who was imperfect to be equal with God ? It would rob him of his imperfection, it would rob him of his glory. But it was not robbery for Christ to be equal with God, for he was in the form of God. Not in bodily form, for he was in bodily form of man. But form in this instance has the same significance that it has when we say one is in the form of a servant; which means he is serving, or in subjection. Consequently really and truly a servant. And Christ being in the form of God was really and truly God. Therefore the prophet said "His name shall be called The Mighty God." Isa. 9:6 Hence we conclude, that he was not made perfect in his divinity.
Nor was he made perfect in his humanity. Perfection in humanity consists of first, a complete body without blemish, second, perfect conformity to the moral law. Christ must of necessity have had these qualifications; other wise he would not have been an acceptable sacrifice to God for sin. For no less perfection was required in the antitype than in the type. And it was required that the type be without blemish. Exodus 12:5 If the antitype (Christ) had had a blemish, and perfectly represented his before God, some of his spiritual members must appear before God with a blemish, and hence be rejected.
If he was lacking on any of his parts, he failed to represent some of his members; there fore they are lost and Christ was disobedient: to his father's will, which was, that he should lose nothing. John 6:36 So he would be found a s inner and lost himself; and heaven would be a blank, but Christ was without blemish. This Peter l:16-Therefore all his p e o p le shall be presented to him holy and without blemish. Eph. 5:27 And Christ conformed perfectly to the moral law, for sin is the transgression of law. This John 3:4 And Christ was without sin This Peter 2:221 John 3:5 So we see that Christ was perfect, both in his divinity and in his humanity, but he w a s not perfect in his office as priest.
The phrase "being made perfect: is from the Greek Teleiothesis, and means consecrated. No one is truly and fully priest until he is consecrated. This was required of the type under the law. Exodus 28:6-And it also was required of the antitype Heb. 7:28. "For the law maketh men high priest which have infirmities but the word of the oath which was since the law, maketh the son which is consecrated forever more."
The type was consecrated by an offering. Exodus 28:3 Consequently by consecrating the antitype a sacrifice must be offered. Therefore Paul said, "It became him to consecrate (make perfect) the captain of our salvation by, or through suffering. Heb. 2:10 And by this he entered upon his priestly office Heb 9:11 "But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;" This says Christ come to, or entered upon his office of high priest by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, which signifies his flesh, and of which the old tabernacle under the law was a type; for in it the priest offered the gifts and sacrifices, to God for sin Heb. 9:6,9. A n d Christ, in his flesh and antitype, appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. Heb. 9:26. And offered himself without spot to God. Verse 14.
The old tabernacle was a token, pledge and means to God's presence with his people or nearness unto them here on earth. So he is said to meet with and dwell amongst them. Exod. 29:43745. And there This will meet with the children of Israel and the tabernacle shall be: sanctified by my glory and This shall sanctify the tabernacle of the congregation and altar; This will sanctify also both Aaron and sons to minister to me in the priests office. And This will dwell among the children of Israel and will he their God." But God meets with, and dwells among his people on earth really and truly only through Christ, The children of Israel's approach unto God was through the tabernacle; but the only real and substantial approach unto God is through Christ; therefore He a1one is the true tabernacle by which he entered upon his office as high priest. "And being consecrated (made perfect) he became the author of eternal salvation unto them that obey him." NOT WILL BECOME the author of eternal salvation unto them if they will obey him or when they obey him, but he BECAME the author of it when he w as consecrated, when he offered himself without spot to God, w hen he suffered upon the cross the same act that consecrated him high priest made him the author of eternal salvation, he procured it then, and not when we obey. For he was offered in our stead as our substitute; Rom. 5:6, our sins were laid on him. Isa. 53:6 He bore them in his body. This Peter 2:24 He suffered for them, and by his stripes we were healed. Isa. 53: 5 He sanctified (dedicated) us through the offering of his body. Heb. 10:10 And perfect forever them that are sanctified Verse 14. Therefore the salvation of which Christ became the author, is not suspended upon conditions to be performed by man, for it has already been wrought. II Timothy 1:9.
This salvation is eternal salvation. It is thus designated, because it had its beginning in eternity, Eph. 1: 3, 4. And has its final consummation in eternity. Matt. 25:34, 36. And God alone has a hand in the performance of it. The father purposed, planned it. Eph. 1:4, 6 The son executed it. This Peter 2:24 and the Holy Ghost applied it. Titus 3:3, 7.
No one can obey without faith, for without faith it is impossible to please God. Heb. 11:6 Faith is the gift of God Eph 2:8 And a fruit of the spirit. Gal 5:22 Hence no one can obey till he has the spirit for the spirit must precede its fruit. And they are not in the flesh but in the spirit. If they have the spirit. Rom. 8:9 And as many as are led by the spirit of God, they are the sons of God, Rom. 8:14. Therefore they that obey are sons of God. Hence obedience can not be a condition of salvation.

We are enjoying some good meetings at Chalk Hill. To me they are the most wonderful people on earth. I have been a member there since 1947 or 1948, I am not sure. But it has been a mixture of joy and sorrow. In searching my life I can find nothing special that I have done. All I can see is what great things the Lord has done for me. I am glad Jesus came to save sinners, as Paul said "of whom I am chief".
We would be happy for you to visit our church.
Mrs. W. P. Prior, Henderson, Texas
Elder H. C. Slate of Nash continues to recuperate at home from an illness of seven weeks and looks forward to the day he can again stand in the pulpit and preach. The Primitive Baptist minister delivered his first sermon sixty years ago, the last Saturday in April at the Bunch (his maternal Grandfather) home near Paris, built in 1872 and still standing with some additions.
At that time (1912) he was 18 years of age. The next day he delivered his first sermon from a pulpit in the Little Vine Church of his home community.
He recalls he was a sharecrop farmer at the time and some time later he left northeast Texas and went to Shamrock to do farm work but did not stay long. On Friday. Aug. 13. 19'20 he was ordained at a meeting of Red River Association at Bagby south of Honey Grove. There 23 ministers and deacons had gathered.
He continued his farming for several years before entering the building profession which he followed when he came to Nash in 1957. During his residency in which he has served as city secretary eleven years, he has also continued his ministry, currently serving a Texarkana, Arkansas church and Chalk Hill church near Marshall. He is also president of Nash Chapter of Senior Citizens. Mrs. Slate was formerly Mildred Evans of Paris

Enclosed is a check for my subscription as I love the Banner of Love. I feel it has the right name and I don't want to miss a copy. I live alone and drive 35 miles to church twice a month when I am able to drive.
I will be 84 years this September and I feel like the dear Lord has blessed me to be on. my own as I have no one to drive for me.
I do enjoy the church so much. I look forward to my meeting days and hope I will be able to go several more years.
A little Sister in a sweet hope,

I love the Lord, and I don't care who knows it!
Christ laid his body down, and he arose it!
I'm going to write this poem, and with His help I'll compose it!
A person who loves the Lord, with what he does he shows it!
He finds the church of his Lord, and there to goes it?
The Lord knows his church. And before time he chose it!
With prayer to God, the spirit within us glows it?
With a song of praise, we all can disclose it?
Within our daily life, we can enclose it!
Then we can realize, it is our God who bestows it!

The ninth annual session of Harmony Plains Singing School will b e held this year at the Primitive Baptist Foundation building at Cone Texas. It will begin on Monday morning August 7 and conclude on Friday night August 11. Everyone, of all ages, is cordially invited to attend and enjoy the fellowship as well as the singing. We are very thankful for the many blessings that have been ours in the past and are sincerely praying for the forthcoming session.
There is ample parking space for trailers and tents and we encourage entire families to attend. There is no better way to spend your vacation than to spend it praising God in song.
Meals will be served by some very wonderful and devoted cooks and helpers. Everyone will want to bring their own bedding. There is space for many to sleep inside the building but we do encourage families to bring their own tent or trailers.
God has blessed us in the past with many capable and devoted instructors to teach our classes and we are thankful for these who anticipate being with us this year. We are also thankful for the many who have helped in ways too numerous to mention here. It is wonderful to behold how everyone works together to see that all the necessary things are done. Parents who do not wish to attend classes will find that there is much joy in helping with the many necessary tasks.
It is our hope to make a stereo record album of some favorite hymns during this session of the singing school. There are a few copies of our first album "Walking In Sunlight" still available for four dollars each. We will be taking advance orders for the new album during the singing school.
I get excited just writing about the Harmony Plains Singing School. I just cannot put my feelings into words but I hope that each one that reads this will take it as a personal invitation to come and worship the Lord with us for one glorious week.
Pray for us,
Harmony Plains Singing School

Elder Bill McCarthy, pastor of the Mt. View, Okla. Primitive Baptist Church, is shown here with the two newest members, of the Church, Janie Spies, left, and Jelene Hoyl. They united with the church May 14th, and were baptized June 11th.
Janie is the daughter of Brother Wayne Spies and wife of Fort Cobb, Okla. and Jelene is the daughter of Brother Lance Hoyl and wife, of Mt. View.
I enjoy reading the Banner of Love so much. I enjoyed the "Communion Of the Spirit'' in the February issue. It seems like everyone ought to see the truth the way he explained it.

A double ring
ceremony in the sanctuary of St. Martin’s Lutheran Church at 4 p.m. Saturday,
May 20, united in marriage Miss Cynthia Elaine McCarty and Mr. Roy Leck Heflin.
The bride's pastor Elder Wilson Gillum of Spring Branch Primitive Baptist Church performed the ceremony before a setting of arched votive candles, an altar arrangement of mixed spring flowers, and a white memory candle, w which was lighted by the couple during the ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Wayne McGarty of Houston and great-granddaughter of Elder T. A. Dunri. The Groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Frank Heflin of Azle and grandson of the late Roy Denman, a founder of Harmony Hill where Cynthia and Leak met.
Escorted clown the aisle by her father, the bride wore an old-fashioned gown of white silk organza fashioned with a high-rise, silhouette. The fitted bodice was accented by appliqued motifs of imported peau d'ange lace. Matching lace adorned the cameo neckline a n d cuffs of the billowing bishop sleeves. The demi-gathered skirt fell to a deep Victorian ruffle a t the hem. Backing the skirt, was a sweeping chapel length train traced with a matching ruffle. A fingertip veil of illusion fell from an Irish lace capulet, sprinkled with seed pearls. She carried a cascade of white orchids and pale yellow roses.
Miss Susan Diane Sugarek attended the bride as maid of honor. Her bridesmaids were Laura Beth and Nancy Jane McCarty, sisters of the bride, Rebecca Jane Heflin, sister of the groom, and Lesa D'Ann Collier, cousin of the bride.
Gowns of lime green mirror mist were chosen by the bride for her attendants. Worn over taffeta, the gowns were designed with full bishop sleeves and scooped neckline edged with a tiny ruffle. The high-rise waistline fell to a deep ruffle at the hemline. White Irish lace edged the top of the ruffle and around the waistline. They carried mixed spring bouquets for their flowers.
Dr. John Howard Dalton of New Orleans, Louisiana, was the groom’s best man. Groomsmen were Dr. David Lee Dalton of San Antonio, Texas, Royce Wayne McAnally of Odessa, Texas, Mario Renaldo Salinas, Austin, Texas and Dennis Keifor Beauchamp of Arlington, Texas cousin of the groom. The groomsmen were attired in afternoon formals with grey and black, striped trousers and charcoal grey coats with brocade trim lapels.
Serving as ushers and candle lighters were Larry Hand of Arlington, Texas and Bill Crowley of Ft. Worth.
Miss Melissa Jean Kemper, the flower girl, wore a white dress fashioned similar to the bride's gown. Mr. Jeffrey Pate Coker of Springtown, Texas wore an afternoon formals and attended the grooms as his ring bearer. Jeff represents the fifth generation of a close family friendship of his family and the groom's family. (His ancestors and the ancestors of the groom have been close family friends in every generation since the early 1800's).
Cherished jewels worn by the bride was a gold lavalier set with rubies, an heirloom of the groom’s family, and in his ascot 'the groom wore his grandfather's diamond stick pin.
Wedding organ music was provided by Mrs. Vance Daniels of Houston. A trio, Misses Rebecca Jane Herlin, Rachel Beauchamp, and Barbara Fay Henderson, sang, "Eternal Life"; followed by Miss Barbara Henderson, who sang a solo "The Wedding Prayer". For the Benediction, while the bride and groom knelt at the altar, Misses Rachel Beauchamp and Barbara Henderson sang, "The Lord Bless Thee and Keep Thee". Leaving the Altar the bride paused to give her mother a yellow rose from her bouquet.
After a memorable shivaree, sixty-four people followed Leak and Cynthia to a nearby private airfield. Where the couple took off in a private plane for their honeymoon.
Following their honeymoon at Falconhead Lodge in Burneyville, Oklahoma, the couple will reside in Azle, and plan to attend the University of Texas at Arlington to finish their college work,
The bride and groom both attended Stephen F. Austin University at Nacogdoches, Texas. The groom also attended Austin College at Sherman, Texas.
"Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness,: humble in mind, meekness, longsuffering, forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any of you quarrel against any; even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye." Col. 3:12, 13. And above all these things, put on charity which is the bond of perfect- ness. Col. 3:14
Certain people were addressed by the Spirit, saints and faithful brethren, and which we believe this address would apply to such in this day and time, by inference, (otherwise the Bible is not of much benefit as an instructional message}. We find that though they were faithful, they needed forgiveness one of another; they had quarrels, they needed exhortation from the apostle to PUT ON some things, in order to manifest to the world their election, their holiness and being beloved of God, they should put on these conditions.
First, bowels of mercies. An attitude of mercy, of forgiving and understanding of the inherent condition by nature of his brother and sister. Better then will he be able to help his brethren, rather then to condemn, rather than to "pass by on the other side." The regenerate condition of God's people gives them a capacity for this mercy, for they are made to realize they themselves have obtained mercy.
The saints are admonished to be kind, and certainly we would think twice if some one were to say that one of our brethren was not kind. The very attitude of the saints should be one of kindness, which manifests understanding. Then humbleness of mind. If my mind is humble I shall not have to condescend to anyone but I will already be on the level of the humble, where I should be. Perhaps Jesus referred to this when he said if a man came into the assembly, he should take the lowest place and then he might be told to come up higher, and he would then be honored.
Meekness is essential for God's saints, as a state of being, and they have it because of the great gratitude of their hearts in realizing what God has done for them. A meek and quiet spirit is a sweet Savior in the sight of God.
Long suffering, and forbearing; the patience of the saints is demonstrated by their waiting to see how the matters will go. The hand of God working in the matter will bring out what is wanted. We are instructed to wait on the Lord. He is the one we are following, so we are to await His pleasure, which we know He will cause us to know in His good time.
I f we knew that a person had all of the forgoing virtues, we would be able to say that surely God had dealt with person and that and he had all the qualities of a saint,
but the inspired writer says that we should manifest more than that, more than all these great virtuous gifts of the Lord. We are then to put on Charity. Would not our possession of the aforementioned qualities indicate that we had the love of God in our hearts so that our charity was obvious? Apparently not. The writer states that charity is above all things. What is this charity then that is so great that it is above the most outstanding trait of the saints of God. It is a secret thing, says Paul, a thing that vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up. The people of this world may emulate these other traits, but they cannot have this one for "charity envieth not." No jealously, no envy, desiring the other's welfare and sacrificing our own. We must do it secretly, you know, otherwise it will not be right. But, we have this promise concerning charity, "IT NEVER FAILETH". That is what we want, something that never fails. It must be able to exercise this greatest of all gifts, because if we could do so, would we not be as our Master, and a true servant of Christ?
Enclosed is a check for three ($3.00) dollars to pay m y subscription for another year.
I enjoy reading the good articles and keeping in touch with what the different churches are doing throughout the country.
We are looking forward to our association (Old Harmony) which will be July 13-16 at Mt. Olive Church near Goldthwaite in Mills Co. and hoping God will be in our midst at that time.
Your Sister in hope,
Mrs. Tom McArthur
We at the Oakwood P.B. Church were blessed so very greatly the third week end in May. Our cups surely did run over with spiritual food and great joy. We had visiting with us, Elder W. B. Smith from Crossville, Tenn. and Elder J. R. Goplin from Dayton, Tenn. and Elder Kenneth Cadle from Beckley, W. Va. They all spoke so sweetly to us.
Our own dear humble pastor, Elder John Foster is a kind, patient and loving shepherd to his little flock. After taking the Lords suppers rejoicing, singing and a good old fashioned handshaking we had a wonderful lunch the dear sisters had prepared. We are always s o glad to see visitors come in we are small in number but we have much love for one another.
On Monday night after the Second Sunday in June, Elder Compton from Washington, D. C. will be with us. We invite all who have a mind to do so, to come and be with us. Bring someone with you too.
We have services every Sunday morning at 10:30. Our church is located, Kenyon and Oldham Sts. For direction on how to find the church call, Elder John Foster 577-5657 or 577-6344. May God Bless and keep us humble is my humble prayer,
Your little sister in hope,

Brother Richards, I heard that you attended a good meeting at Houston. I know that you are thankful for that.
I pray that I can be thankful to the Lord for the way he has bestowed His blessings upon me. I enjoy so much going and being with people of the Lord. The people at the different places have been so good to me.
I was in Mena, Ark. the fourth Sunday in April and enjoyed it very much. Then in Snyder the following weekend which was a very good meeting. Then last Sunday, I was in Abilene which was our communion time and Eider Berwyn Hand from Carlsbad, N.M. was our visiting preacher. The Lord blessed him to do some wonderful preaching for us. Another good meeting enjoyed by all, thank God.
Brother Richards, we are having a fifth Sunday, meeting at Abilene in July, which we are looking forward to with prayer in our hearts and we are hoping that you and wife can be with us at that time.
'The church didn't invite any special one. The invitation is open to all of God's called ministers who have a desire to come and be with us. I just wanted to write you this little note, to let you ; know that wife and I love you and Sister Opal, and enjoy being with you, and we hope the Lord will put the desire in hearts to come be with us in Abilene.
The second Sunday in May I was at Lampasas. The church there was good enough to call me back to fill that appointment for another year, and wit[ the help of the Lord I will do the best I can.
The Lampasas Church also agreed to let me off the second Sunday in June so that I may go fill a request of the San Antonio Church. We hope and pray that the Lord will meet with us there. I have never been there before, and am looking forward to meeting with and visiting those folks and their pastor.
Yours in Christian Love, (Eider) W.T. Boyd

I am beginning now to become more reconciled to my fate of losing my dear husband Perry C. Harris. A lot of the readers of the Banner of Love knew him, especially in Arizona and Texas. I am sure those who knew him, knew that he was a wonderful man, a member of the Primitive Baptist Church, and loved the Lord, and the church, and the brethren and sisters very much.
He made friends everywhere he went. He and I were married Sept. 21, 1970 at Lompac, Calif. We loved each other dearly. The Good Lord only saw fit for me to keep him 17 months, then took him with him to a better home. To a home where there are no sorrows and no weeping. I will meet him again some sweet day.
He had a heart attack last September, and was not well anymore. After much sickness God saw fit to take him away on April 15th.
Brother Shamblin and a group of people came down one night, and we sang for about an hour. He tried to talk but could not say anything. Brother Shamblin offered a sweet prayer I am sure he wanted to say thanks, and that everything was alright.

I would like to report that we have been having some good meetings here at El Dorado for which we are thankful to the Lord.
On the second Sunday in May and Saturday afternoon we had five ministers and it was also our communion and feet washing time.
Eider E. L, Griffin preached Saturday afternoon and we all enjoyed him. On Sunday morning our pastor Elder Carl Watson came and brought Elders Kenneth Martin, V. M. Bleaker and Wesley Keith of San Francisco, California.
Elder Keith went first in the morning followed by Elder Martin. They both preached wonderfully
Then in the afternoon Elder Bleaker went forward followed by Elder Watson before communion.
We were again lifted up and I trust given a glimpse of some of the precious things the Lord has in store for those that worship him in spirit and in truth.
I trust that we truly appreciate you visiting ministers and hope you will come again soon.
We are also grateful for you other visitors that have been here and hope you will come again soon,
We want to welcome all of you and especially the ministering Brethren, We are al-
ways happy to have visitors. An unworthy one, Clemens Sauer
The preachers words are closer,
What I read in the Bible is plainer,
Other church members are grander,
The singing is much finer,.
My husband is quite kinder,
Our children are nicer,
Our neighbors are friendlier,
The flowers smell sweeter,
The grass is greener,
The air is much purer,
My house stays cleaner,
My food taste. "gooder",
The car runs smoother,
My purse stays richer,
The dog doesn’t bother,
The T.V. is quieter,
Everything
around
me is
better.

We are enjoying some good meetings at our church at Chalk Hill. To me they are the most wonderful people on earth. I have been a member there since 1949.
It has been a mixture of joy and sorrow. I have searched my life and I find nothing great that I have done. All I c an say is what great things the Lord has done for me. I am glad He said He came to save sinners, of whom I am chief.
Most of our members are up in years.
Make us happy by giving us a visit sometimes.

"And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and behold how the people cast money into the treasury, and there came a certain poor widow and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing. And he called unto them, verily I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast in more than all they which have cast into the treasury".
For all they did cast in of their abundance, but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living. St. Mark 12:41-44.
Now, Jesus was teaching in the temple when this all happened. What is a temple? My dictionary says. it is a house of worship. So in this case would our little church be called a temple? I believe that Jesus was teaching Primitive Baptist doctrine in the temple and if He was, it must have been a Primitive Baptist temple. And if so it had a treasury in it to put the funds in.
Now, you will find nearly the same quotation in Luke 21:1-2.
I know the Primitive Baptists have never practiced having a treasury in it, as long as I can remember, but what I want to know, is it unscriptural to have a treasury in our little churches? A treasury is depository for funds and valuables. Read Joshua 6:19-24.
Brother Richards if I am wrong about the treasury, please advise me, as I feel to be unlearned.

Sister Cartie Weaver, a very dear friend of many Primitive Baptist is quite ill. She has been unable to attend church services for almost two months.
She sends highest regards to each of you and while visiting her last Friday June 16th we had the privilege of prayer together which was so much support to me.
She is in the Rice Springs Care Home in Haskel.

I am sure all have heard the old song, "A mighty fortress is our God." We hear it often over the radio. And I was wondering about the word fortress. Webster says it is a large, permanent fortified place for defense or security. Notice first, large, then permanent. Its lasting and durable from everlasting to everlasting. Thou art God, He strengthens us; by being our strength and encourages us. David said the Lord is my Rock and my fortress and my deliverer. My God, my strength in whom I will trust. My buckler and the horn of m y salvation. And my high tower. For thou art my rock and my fortress. Therefore for thy name sake lead me and guide me.
Be thou my habitation. Where unto I may continually resort. Thou hast given commandment to Save me for thou art my rock and my fortress. I will say of the Lord. He is my refuge and my fortress. My God, in Him will I trust.
Just think of the strength and security and beauty in each of these great things the Lord is. David was continually going over and over and magnifying the greatness and goodness of our God. Praising Him and giving Him all the praise. Is it not wonderful to think of His greatness. I am lost in wonder as I name each of these things I am sure. If we could remember His greatness and goodness, and promises and would trust him more and pray earnestly--we would not be so afraid of our enemies winning this war. (How true! It is only when we are weak that our enemies can harm us. --Editor) God will hear His church if she begs and cries to Him for help for our dear boys in this war. Think back with David and name each of these great things and more than are listed here and there is no place our God has not been if His children were there. He has promised to go with them or be with them, and is not slack concerning His promises. When the Lord was here on earth He was in valleys. He was on the mountain top. He prayed and preached from the mountains. He was on the sea and commanded the waters "Peace be still" And you say not in the air. Well, he ascended in heaven, and said He would come again in like manner. And He said they mercy, oh Lord is in the heavens. And thy faithfulness reaches into the clouds. So that will reach our boys in the airplanes as well as the ships at sea and those on land. Or wherever they be. Oh you dear boys in the Armed Forces, put your trust in this great God. We here at home may get neglectful with our prayers for you. But God will never be slack concerning His promises and I know you will not let us down in any way.
If we at home could do or would do our part, what a wonderful place the boys would have to canoe back to the home fires when the war is over.
"A mighty fortress is our God."

"LET THERE BE LIGHT! ' And there was light.
The first day gave us day and night,
The Eve and morn of the second were spent,
In creation of heaven as a firmament.
He gathered the waters and called them seas,
Then dressed the dry land with grass, herbs, and trees.
The third day had ended, the fourth day was nigh.
The sun, moon, and stars would soon grace the sky,.
The fifth day brought sea life and fowls of the air.
The sixth day brought creatures that crawled everywhere.
The sixth day continued and working with sand,
God breathed into being the created man.
On the seventh day He finished the work he began,
Of creating heaven, seas, earth, stars, and man.
On this day He rested as the Bible will tell,
The Great God above, had done his work well.
This poem written by Joe Bass, March 15, 1972.
ADOPTION of children by Jesus Christ.
BEGOTTEN us again unto a lively hope.
COVENANT of God with His children.
DIVINE comfort for those who mourn.
ETERNAL, everlasting weight of glow.
FAITH, hope and charity now abideth.
GRACE sufficient for all our trials.
HEAVEN secured for all God's children.
INHERITANCE obtained for His children.
JUSTIFIED by faith, we have peace with God.
KEPT by His grace, love and purpose.
LOVED us before the world began.
MERCY for the poor in Spirit.
NEVER to leave nor forsake His own.
ONE Lord, one faith, one baptism.
PREDESTINATED His own to be conformed to Him.
QUICKENED from death into Life.
REDEMPTION paid for all His children.
SALVATION is in none other Name but JESUS.
TEACHING us to deny ungodliness.

If I could write like anyone else I would tell you of what good meetings we had this 5th weekend in Opelina and Goodwater, Ala.
We had two young brethren at Opelina and the Lord was good to them. One of them is only 20 years old and he preached like an old person. He is so humble. And then at Goodwater, Sunday, we bad some wonderful preaching in the morning and had communion in the afternoon.
I am sending you a subscriber.
May God's blessing ever be with you and yours.

"O my dove, that art in the clefts of the rock, in the secret places of the stairs, let me see thy countenance, let me hear thy voice; for sweet is thy voice, and thy countenance is comely. Cant. 2:14.
This text is full of tender love that Christ has for His poor afflicted people. He calls her His dove. He called her by other endearing names before, but here He calls her His dove. Although a poor, weak and defenseless dove, yet she is in the clefts of the rock. The rock represents Christ. The dove’s nature is to fly for safety. Perhaps no bird can fly so fast as the dove,
There were cities of refuge in the land of Canaan to which a fugitive of justice could fly, and as long as he remained in that city he was safe. This too, was a figure of Christ. Christ is not only "an hiding place from the wind," but He is the only hiding place for a poor condemned sinner. Then fly little dove, to the rock that is "Higher than I" for safety. Our blessed Lord possessed humanity as well as divinity. The poor defenseless dove feeds upon the flesh and blood of Jesus but we often need to get high up to escape our enemies; so fly up little dove, to the mount of His divinity. Here is a mountain whose top reaches to the highest heaven; so high it has never been explored.
Here is omnipotent power, immutability, omnipresence omniscience, and everlasting mercy. Here the little dove is safe, here only. How my poor heart overflows with joy at the sweet thought that God's humble poor, has such a strong hold to flee to in times of trouble. Here we are safe from a broken law; safe from the world, the flesh and the devil.
The dove of Christ is not only in the clef of the rock, but she is in the secret places of the stairs. The stairs represent Christ also.
Jacob saw a ladder that reached from earth to heaven. A ladder or stairway has steps by which we ascend or descend. Now the steps are secret steps that none know of but God's people.
Prayer is one of those secret places. There is no power in the world that can prohibit His dove from this secret stairway. Here Christ meets with them and they sup with Him and He sups with them Another secret place in the stairs is praise to God. The little dove often has to spread her wings of faith and fly for life from the blood thirsty hawk but when safe in the cleft of the rocks then what a feast of rejoicing and praise to God for deliverance. It is a joy unspeakable and full of glory. Another secret place in the stairs is meditation. There are hundreds of God's humble poor that are old and feeble, they can no longer go to the House of God. There are others that are cast on beds of pain. Others are far away in strange lands. But Christ meets with them in secret meditation, and when they meet Jesus in the field of meditation, a third party would be an intruder. Just you and our lover what a feast.
Another secret place is when He walks with us in the thorny way and opens to us the Scripture.
Look how they sparkle with jewels. Oh, when He unlocks these rich mines and let us behold our riches, we forget our poverty.
"Let me see thy countenance let me hear thy voice; for sweet is thy voice and thy countenance is comely." Jesus invites His dove to look to him, so dear child of God turn your tear stained face to Jesus, look heavenward you have nothing to fear. It is true little dove, you spent your life in mourning, but there is beauty in your tears to Christ. He takes notice to every tear that falls from your eyes. He also invites you to let Him hear your voice in prayer, although it may only consist of groans it is very sweet to Him.
Dear reader, I have scarcely touched the great truths in the text, preach it out and enjoy it. Sept. 15, 1934.
Selected from the writings of the late Eld. S. N. Redford.
I had a letter from Elder Inman last week stating he was carrying his boy to Houston to go to work; and that he would come by my house and pick me up.
He wanted to go to Rockdale and visit Brother and Sister Mullins as they are getting up in years and can't attend church as often as they would like to, being around 75 miles away, and their health is not good.
We got there in the afternoon and it seems as they were lifted up when we drove up. The afternoon was well spent, mostly on the Bible, Brother Mullins and Elder Inman are both well read on the Bible and I am the best hand you ever saw at listening. (Like I heard the late Brother Archer at Flynn one time and Elder A.R. Wilson preached so wonderful and he told him that he could beat him telling it, but couldn't beat him believing it. So, that's the way I feel to be.
After supper we had some singing and Brother Inman preached some using 110 Psalms. The Lord blessed him for about 30 minutes. We read in Matthews, 18-20, where 2 or 3 gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them also. So, we felt like that He, (Jesus) was with us. Then in St. Luke 12-32, Fear not little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the Kingdom, so dear Brothers and Sisters. I feel like that little flock is none other than the Primitive Baptists.
After a good nights rest, we left the old folks in good spirits.
Please pray for the household of faith.

It is good to read the Banner of Love each time and to hear from my old friends like your son Charles.
M o s t of my friends knew of my moving to Longview with the hope of building a good chiropratic practice here. Now, after five months things are working out wonderfully and it looks like I will be able to move my wonderful wife and children here in a few short weeks.
We are sincerely looking for a church of our faith in this area that we will enjoy attending. I earnestly believe that it is the will of the Lord for us to live here. And I have so much to be thankful for with three fine boys and a pretty little girl now, including my wife. To complete the picture we will want a church in the area that we can love as we do our home church Mt. Zion in Fort Worth.
Sincerely,
Dr. Gene Mclntush
