History

We are known by “Fellowship Primitive Baptist Church.” We are located about eight miles northwest of Longview in a little community called East Mountain. The church is one of the oldest congregations in the country, having been organized about 1870. Though most of the records from then until August, 1924, have been lost, it is known that two charter members were D. G. Webb and E. D. Culpepper and that the first church building was located at the site of the Old East Mountain Cemetery. When the East Mountain schools grew rapidly in 1931-1932 with the oil boom, the church was used for the school until new space was provided. The church had by that time purchased one acre of land just west of the school. On this land, purchased in 1910 the church built. In April of 1933, members voted to build a brick veneer church. This building is the one we have at the present time. Since, we have added improvements. In 1961, members voted to build a kitchen with bathrooms. Other improvements have been added also. Elder J. M. Scoggins  was the pastor from Aug. 1924 until 1942. He was followed by Elder A. D. Woods who served over 30 years. Our  present  pastor is Elder Jimmie Stripland  from Paris, Texas. Our Deacon is Odria C. Bailey. At present time we have 15 members.
